It is not gonna run more then 1080p when it launches. Hell we will be lucky if we get 1440p after launch. But all in all it really doesn't matter it is not that much of a significant chage once you go above 1080p. Wait till the OLED come out that is when we will be mine blown.

You would be wasting your money for anything above 1080P.

Anything higher than 1080p is a complete waste of money. The PS4 will play games at 1080p max, and how many 4k movies you seen sitting on the store shelf awaiting your purchase?

Yes, nothing on the PS4 (at least at launch) is going to run anything higher than 1080p. And there's talk that most games will probably run lower than that resolution anyway to provide higher framerates.

LOL Console games will finally be rendered at Full HD 1080p. They won't go any higher. Why would you want to blow money on a 4K Display? You want to stretch that low 1080p rez?

Zero chance the ps4 in game will have resolutions any higher then 1080p. It might do 4k for blueray movies but the machine is no where near powerfull enough to produce anything higher at a decent fps.

Games on the PS3 will run at 720p or 1080p, depending on what the developer wants/requires. It can do 4k video, but what 4K video content is there out there now? Even in 2014, you'll be hard pressed ot find anything worth the immense price of a 4K TV set (most of which will only be worth it for sets 60+ inches in size anyway - do you even have the space for such a gigantic things?).

It might be worth it to invest in a 4K TV in 2020, but not now. And by that time it's probable that your 4K TV will simply stream games to your home, and you won't even need a PS4.

4K is not going to be mainstream by the time the PS4 and its games are released. Also, I'm pretty sure most PS4 games are going to continue running 720p/1080p.

it is a silly question i mean seriously 1080p is a great picture, ps4 will only have games at 1080p :S thats what has been said, it will be able to play 4k blu rays but wont support 4k games yet. 1080p is the highest you can get without breaking your millionaires friends bank account lol.

Well on the TV/console side of things yes, but I'm running a 2560x1440p monitor and it cost me $500, not $25,000. Of course, I also need 2 GTX 680's in SLi to max out games at 60+ FPS at that resolution ($800 worth of GPU).

1080p is where its going to be. Nothing will be higher than that. And not every game is going to be 1080p native, only some. Most games are going to be aiming for 720p-60fps. This gen, if you were a dev and wanted your game to be 60fps, you had to make your game sub-HD (540p). Pretty much every game this gen has been 720p 30fps.

Let's hope it will be worth it for the games, right? Outside of 1080p, they'll be able to handle a lot more going on at once, like the huge number of balls dropping (lol) at once in that demo video without lagging the system. Nicer displays will let you appreciate more going on on the screen at once, regardless of 720p vs 1080p or 30fps vs 60fps. Those details are overrated.

tc, u get too confused by resolutions and marketing buzz words.

u should just sit back and enjoy. ps4 is for 1080p. ps3 did it too, but sometimes less because ai, textrue, frames rates, ect.

I think the PS4 will max out at 1080p, very much doubt it will go higher or lower.

In response to the initial question, it's definitely worth it. As others have said the PS4 will probably max out at 1080p. But in any case, if a game says it's 1080p it doesn't mean that it has the best graphics out there. The idea is that these days games focus on maxing out the graphics, not increasing the resolution. So in many cases you can have games that have 720p resolution and are better looking than a game that has 1080p. It's all about the textures, shaders and graphics in general. Anyway from what I've been seeing about the ps4, we can except some smoking graphics that can only impress us.

I can't imagine PS4 trying to push for 1440p ever - 1080p is the standard to live by for the next 5-6 years (unless you go PC)
