How long do you think the new systems will be around for? I read a report saying they think consoles will only be around five years then a new system will come out. Do you agree?

I would say around six years, it might not sound like a lot however I do believe this generation will be at least two years shorter then PS3 one.
Not a bad thing as long as the price of a new hardware is good, PS4 for example fits that price very well.
Ahhhhh, let me look into my crystal ball.......wait a minute, I have no FREAKIN idea!!! lol... Seriously though, Sony has a decent track record for supporting their current and previous-gen console. So I would say at least 10yrs, especially now with them being able to update the hardware with firmware updates.
Hopefully no more than 5 years. Sony could still support it like they support ps3 but ps5 needs to come out in 5 years and not a single month late
@mjf249: I do not see a six year lifespan being perfect, especially if you choose to get a PlayStation 4 later on.
Playstation 4 will make it to the 10 year life span. Playstation lasted from 1994-2006 Playstation 2 lasted 2000-2012 and Playstation 3 was promised a 10 yr lifespan. 2006- at least 2016 With 2014 one month away PS3 has 2 years at least left.
Sony Playstation 4 will make a 10 yr lifespan as well. Playstations are the longest lived consoles. Sony supports the older ones quite well even when the successor is released. So when PS5 is out PS4 will still be will us.
The 8th Generation may indeed be shorter. This generation when on so long because the worldwide economy died. If this had not happened the 8th generation would have started long ago.
Probably around the same amount of time PS3 is around. I'd say 6-7 years until a new console and it'll probably continue to get support for another couple of years. That is of course, assuming there actually will be another generation of consoles.
