Yup, my 60gb broke twice, but both times it was kind of my fault so I can't really complain.

Nope, and that applies to my launch 60gb, my brother's new 80gb, and my sister's new 80gb. All three are in perfect order. The only thing that I have noticed is that with mine, the fans kick in sooner than they used to, but hey, the thing is three years old...

A while back, my first PS3 (80 GB with software BC)simply stopped powering on. I have no idea why, but now I have its replacement plugged into a surge protector. Fortunately, it happened while my console was still under warranty.

If your ps3 broke and wont play discs it's one of 2 things

1.) you let ALOT of dust kill the BR laser. tisk tisk

2.) you played it far to often and to long and just killed the laser from over use, tisk tisk

so we learned take care of your machine and get out into the world and turn it off once in awhile

Sir your poll is skewed. Your question asks "Has your PS3 broke?"but you don't give an option to say no.

I just sent my 60GB ps3 off today :( My blu ray drive crapped out, the blue light keeps flashing and it acts like a disc is already inserted but theres not one in there cuz the last cd in got stuck and I forced it out by holding down on eject button, but now it won't grab the discs to bring them in at all, so it's saddening, I got my ps3 coffin in and sent it in to Sony today hopefully she comes back working and unscathed!! If they send me a refurb hopefully I get my backwards comapat 60GB model at least!! I have a 320GB HDD that I took out before sending it in. Other than that she was a beast and never broke down on me, I used it alot so I already feel I got my moneys worth!

lol weak survey. If its a question "Has your PS3 broke?" there should be a yes/no answer. Sounds like someone got a bitunlucky with their ps3 maybe? Anyways, you will always have a lot more people complain about a bad experience than those who have had a good one. For everyone 1 person who complains, there are countless more who've had no trouble at all.

I'm a hardcore gamer and that 60G PS3 stays on like half the day, every day. Either I'm playing it, movies are playing it, or we are watching T.V. and its still on in the background. I don't even turn the thing off from the back after its in shutdown mode! I've not had one problem, not any trouble with my PS3 as of yet. Based on how well its done, even if it does have trouble, i'd just buy a new one. With the experience I have had so far, its a beast of a machine thats well worth the price.

There should be a "no" option. But yes mine has and its the 60gb.

Everyone that has an old 60gb BACK UP YOUR SAVES!!! The 60 gigs are flawed and you cant do anything to stop them from breaking, if they want to break they will break. In fact I would almost bet anything that all 60gb PS3s will break eventually from the YLOD, whether it be now or in a couple years, they will most likely break. I know those people who havent had it break think that it wont happen, but thats what I thought and BAM YLOD. Im getting mine back in a couple days finally, but when it does happen dont be regretting it when youre staring at that blinking red light, go back up your saves now and save yourself the stress and agony later.

My 40gb stopped reading discs, but Sony support was absolutely amazing. The shipping they paid was upwards of $140, just the shipping!

Mine broke a month ago , a 40GB, here at Peru there is no sony support so I can't get my exchanged or repair. It stopped reading disc ( only games, error 80010017), I take it to a place were there they repair it, they replace the lens , it was not the lens; then they tried replacing the HDD , neither the HDD, SO.. :(... Dead, Im gonna sell it and Im going to buy a New 80GB next month.

I got YLOD on 60GB launch ended up being the mainboard i took the power supply and bluray drive out of another ps3 i had and tested it in the unit and it didnt power up so i did a reflow of the motherboard and that fixed the YLOD issue that i had.

do you feel you in some way contributed to its malfunction in the first place? Their failure rate is high u know, No one will convince me that its under any 2 % , when there's over 100 of them repairing in my country of 300,000 people. Sony is full of it man, all i know is i only had to pay 25 dollars to get mine fixed. YLOD is RROD in disguise. My ps2 is 7 yrs and still working, xbox is 5 and still working. My ps3 didnt even have dust in it and i played it in AC, and it overheated, kinda crap is that. Cant believe people believe its lower failure rate than xbox 360 , justifies the 150 dollars . or just because sony instilled in them that the console was marketed for more than its production value..so? they told us that vibration feedback was last gen, then brought it back.

My launch 60 GB and newer 80 GB models both work perfectly fine.

I gave my girlfriend the 60 GB one and bought myself a newer one. It sure would be nice if they brought back those media card slots. Those were great!
