So my old school 40 gig that I've put my life into is starting to scare me. I can't do anything on it without it eventually becoming very very loud... like super loud, by increasing two or three different times in noise level until it's finally as loud as a ps3 can get I'm sure. Today I even fell asleep with it on and napped for about an hour (sleeping through the loud noise), woke up, and the system was off. It hadn't been long enough for my auto-off fuction to kick in, and when I turned the system back on later it gave me the notification that the system wasn't turned off properly and to make sure I do so next time.

I don't know what to do. I've dusted it. I've moved it to a different location. I guess it's just about its time to go. I want to sell it to Gamestop so that I can at least get something for it, but I don't know if I should mention the fan noise when I do so or if it'll come back to haunt me for selling them a loud system. It works totally fine, it just makes so much noise and heats up insanely. I'm going to have to replace it, that's obvious. Do you think I should sell it to Gamestop or not? Or is there another solution to make it quit being loud without getting a new system? If I don't sell it, is it basically garbage? I would really appreciate some input please. Thanks yo

I would back up your system and then start shopping for a different one. It probably needs to be dusted out, but that will void your ability to trade it in. If you trade it at gamestop you can at least get some money off a slim or used model. Check out amazon's trade in program though too. Best of luck!!

I would trade it in. Hopefully it isn't loud right off the bat in case they check the system to see if it works. They'd likely take it in anyways. They can likely tune it up. By getting a new one, you get a new warranty and the option to extend it for a longer period of time, as well as a fully working brand new system... that's smaller! No drawbacks here as the 40 gig wasn't backwards compatible.
