Just download the 1.6 firmware update to your PS3 after that is installed you will find a folding@home icon in the cross media bar under the Playstation store icon select that and run it like anything else on the PS3 media bar it will tell you it needs to download, select yes, then after that if it doesn't start automatically select folding@home again on the PS3 media bar and the program starts running. While this program is running press triangle on the PS3 controller to bring up the options menu, select "identity", under "select donor name" you enter the name you want to be identified by on the folding@home website. If you want to join the gamespot@home team select "join an existing team" under identity and enter the team number 32721
The thing im confused about the Gamespot@home is that there are only 42 active processors in the last 50days but the team is doing really, really, really well. Can anyone explain what is going on? Anyone using their PS3's before other people can use it for F@H. P.S. I dont really think it costs you nothing. It does cost you money watt' wise. Im not saying it a crazy lot of money, but depending where you live, keeping your PC on all day working at 100percent can be a difference of 300-400 bucks. It was on a dl.tv episode. And they used a new dual core intel that uses less power. CastleBomb44
42 fast processors! :) I actually don't think at least on the PC side it is able to report the dual-core folders, which a lot of us are. Plus the team is 3 years old so when it first started out we had a lot more people folding and all those stats stay with the team. With the addition of all of you PS3 folders we'll rule the world soon ;) That's not really a good way to look at this though, it's not really about what position the team is in but about all of us helping out to hopefully save some lives and maybe our own.
Wattage wise, my dual-core only consumes about 50-60watts so that's like $10 a month and I'm using half the day anyway for work so it's not a big deal.

Over in the Site Enhancement boards quadraleap posted a suggestion of getting an emblem for those who contribute to the team. I'm not sure if it will help out the cause but if everyone posts in there with their support it might make them take notice: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=25460947

Sunday Night Foldathon (S.N.F) event sunday night. Join In and Play Beyond Â

Not sure if its been posted, I didn't see it so here it is:
Fully community started and driven, Over at the official U.S. community site of PlayStation, member Xenokai posted about the up and coming event this weekend that involves the Folding@Home feature. If you're not familiar with this, it's actually a joint project by Stanford University and Sony that aims to research protein folding and misfolding in order to gain an understanding of how these are related to disease.
Anyway, the said event is dubbed as Sunday Night Foldathon (SNF), and here's how it goes: This Sunday night, March 25, all PS3 users are encouraged to turn on their systems and run the folding program. It could be anytime you want, even right before you go to Dreamland and you can just let the program run until you wake up in the morning. And that's it.
According to Xenokai, the purpose of this event is to let Sony, or Stanford University for that matter, know that their work and project is being appreciated and that the PS3 community is willing to help out. In simple terms, it's a "show of force" on the part of the community. One important thing to note is that SNF was conceptualized and is now being implemented purely by members of the community. Both Sony and Stanford have no hand on this whatsoever. Regardless, we know the two would be very thankful if this turns out to be a success.

Also just to show how powerful the cell is, this project has been around since 2000 yet in just a few days the PS3 has already almost caught all Windows based PCs in power being alloted to the project. Here is the updated list:

I just joined ahwile ago and im folding as we speak and those dots represent atoms of different kinds, the whole thing is a whole protien of some sort.
Actually, the guy I was responding to asked what the blue dots were on the "world map." He wasnt asking about the protein. I dont know if you read that but now you know.I just joined ahwile ago and im folding as we speak and those dots represent atoms of different kinds, the whole thing is a whole protien of some sort.

I'm guessing they represent all the PC users of F@H. I'm completely just guessing though. What is the benefit of folding in a team? I'm still going to do it, I'm just wondering. *~Now Folding with the Gamespot team.~*Spartan8907

thx for answering, I thought the same thing but didn't see any blue dots anywhere but in europe but as of right now half of america is covered in blue dots including some of southeast canada. and europe is full. If it were PC's I would have thought it to be more evenly spread out over the globe
Â
ofcourse it might have something to do with night time and everyone getting off their pc's and leaving it to do folding.
