Wired is faster than wireless, although I'm not sure you'd see the difference playing a game. They are usually optimized to send as little data across the net as possible. Where you'll really see the difference will be in downloads. When you're getting a game or patch from Sony is when you'll see the biggest speed difference.

BTW...if you're going to use wireless, make sure to enable the security (WPA) on the PS3 and wireless router. That way, nobody else can use your connection. Don't use WEP if you can avoid it. It's better than nothing but it's been cracked.

ethernet = direct connection = faster internet speen and less lag

wifi = not direct = not as fast downloads and sometimes lag

if wifi works without any problems i would use that, but if you see any issues ethernet works great. just to let you know i used wifi for a while, but for no reason i would be connected and then get disconnected when i was in the middle of a match so i switched to ethernet. Try wifi and if you dont have any problems i would use it

LOL 5 level house? I think he's counting his basement and attic xD Well I hear that ethernet is definitely the way to go if you want speed. Plus I read something about the PS3 having a terrible wifi card. But that could've just been a raging fanboy. The reason I came to this forum is because I didnt know which to use myself. I wanted to know if wifi is okay because the PS3 booklet thing said that certain ethernet cables can cause malfunction :S Or am I just worrying too much?

I wouldn't say all that now.

Agreed, however I prefer Linksys Wireless-N Gigabit Router which gives you gigabit ethernet speed.

Sounds like you might want to consider a repeater in your house.

Actually, you may want to consider having the house wired with Cat 5e or Cat 6 Ethernet cable so you know every room is good to go for networking.

Ethernet is always better. I have wi-fi with no problems now, but it took months to find the perfect location and settings for the PS3 and router. Location and even postion can make a difference. My wi-fi signal stayed at around 90% until the 2.80 update and now it stays at 100% everytime I check (which happens to be very often) even while in a game.

Ethernet is so much better. I'd kill to use the ethernet network in our house(not literally), but I can't because it's upstairs and my setup is downstairs.
