No refurbished items are "safe". They were broken and then "fixed". Just shell out the extra hundred, it'll be worth it.

even though the ps3 dies less than the 360 does, i still wouldn't reccemend a refurbished ps3 (even though its better than buying a used ps3 at gamestop or eb games) so like the other guy said, just save up an extra $100. gamestop sells a new 120gb ps3 and a new 160gb ps3 both for $249.99

I would shell out the extra $100 for a new system.

It is a Slim model if that makes a difference? I've been reading a lot of reviews and there are a lot of pros and cons but I'm mostly reading reviews on fat consoles.

Hmm I really don't know. Is there anyone else with any expierence buying a slim refurbished?

Thanks!

sony doesn't make the fat ps3's anymore. the last fat ps3 sony made was the 2usb 80gb. all the ps3's sony makes now are slims and slims are better than the fat ones (slims last longer and take up 35% less power when plugged in). again don't buy a ps3 used or refurbished period. just save up the extra $100 and get a slim ps3 new

i have a fast refurbished model and ive had no problems knock on wood. guess just depends on how you take care of it maybe. ie making sure no dust collects in the vents and it is able to "breath" if you can afford a new one go for it but if not. refurbished is the way to go.
