NGP sounds more like PSP, which sounds better than the Vita. For some reason, when I think of Vita... I think of trendy college students huddled together around their Macs in a coffee shop.
I thought that back when I first heard it would be called Vita, but I'm used to it now.

Yeah, I'm sorta cool w/ it now, too. Most of the time I even like calling it PSV b/c it sounds a lot like PSP. Besides, NGP was just weak sounding to me.
well if it was called the NGP, then it would have to be the "Playstation NGP" so it could still be a part of the Playstation family. PNGP is too long, in the same way that psp2 is too long. "PSVita" is the same amount of syllables as "PSP2" but it can be shortened to "Vita". They couldnt call it the NGP because it needs to be an immediately recognizeable product of the Playstation line.
No I am fine with the name Vita. NGP always sounded stupid to me and there was no thought put into that name. I mean come on, really? Next generation portable. Doesn't even sound like a name. Hell the 3DS is a NGP as well.
No, that wouldn't make any sense, NGP just meant ''Next Generation Portable'', it barley qualified as a code name as well. Granted ''Vita'' isn't the best either, it sounds like something you'd order at some hipster coffee stand. But overall it still doesn't bother me very much.
I don't think NGP is a good name either. I didn't like the name Vita at first but it's grown on me and I'm use to it now. I don't really think about the name anymore and whether it's good. I would say Vita is still better then PSP or NGP.

Actually I don't because as of Feb 22 2012. The PSvita will be Sony's Current generation portable. So in the years 2013,2014,2015 etc. The name Next generation portable would be outdated.

NGP was pretty neat, not gonna lie. However Vita never has reminded me of "Vista", or a coffee from a coffee stand.. LOL. Vita is a pretty deep name, and I like the decision they made with the name.
that's exactly my problem the deeper meaning.. im a guy and shallow at that, and they named it something in a different language witch means something pansy...

"Vita" is definitely the worst name choice I have ever heard of (I'm talking about the Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft consoles strictly, because I'm sure the other crap companies had worse names) and I can only say "the Vita" around my friends that are familiar with the PSV.
Plus, anyone that I talk to the Vita about that isn't familiar with the name, ALWAYS say the "new PSP". So I pretty much have to dumb myself down for a lot of people because of the bad name choice :(
