The price of a ps3 in canada is 699$nd almost 800$ after tax. I understand that since the american and canadian dollars aren't the same the price has to be higher but the difference is minimal. I went on google and it said after july 5th the difference is

1 Canadian dollar = 0.945358 U.S. dollars. Therefore the price should be the almost the same. Sony should cut down the price and if there is a price cut in the US at e3 lets say of 100$ will the price of the ps3 canadian be drop to 599$ or 499$ since the currency isin't that different anymore?

link to flyer of best buy here - http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/1451.html

whether this is true or not. i don't know. but it looks legit. i have a 100 dollar best buy gift card im saving if this is true.

Why don't you realise that AT LAUNCH the PS3 was CHEAPER in Canada than the USA. Actually at launch the PS3 was the cheapest in Canada (ignoring Japan) !! You really expect the price to change everyday with the dollar, GET REAL!! stop complaining and just save some money its not that expensive, get a job @ minimum wage you should be able to pay off the PS3 with in 2 - 3 weeks even after taxes and all that good stuff!

Probably the Aussie price because they use their own currency.

Kudos to the man with the sorta sensible economic thinking. Nav. has a point that nationwide product prices can't fluctuate instantly to match the fluctuation of the value of the nation's dollar value. Well Put.

But you sorta killed it by saying that on minimum wage anyone can afford it. Most gamers are adults with bills to pay, and the gamers who still live with their parents can't work full time becuase of law restrictions, school, etc.

Can't believe i have to pull out numbers,
November 17, 2006 $1.1458 CAD = $1 American Dollar
PS3 in America = 599.99 * 1.1458 = 687.48 > 659.99 (LAUNCH PRICE)

as i said before the PS3 (SYSTEM) was cheaper in Canada than it was in the US at launch, just because the Canadian Dollar has skyrocketed since then, is just a matter of coincidence.

As for games, (i know best buy isnt the best place for comparing games), its 59.99 US and its 64.99 CAN, NGS is actually 59.99 CAN right now, so i don't know what crap your talking about, and nor do i care for collector's editions.

Thanks, but as a student who has to pay a 11500 tuition which increases each year, plus housing + food + entertainment + booze =D, i was still able to find a way to put 2500 aside for a PS3 budget, plus i wasill still be able to save 2500 all from my summer job, plus savings from before are helping to pay my tuition, so its just a matter of proper planning and patience! to be able to wait until you can afford whatever it is you want.

and i once again say that no the PS3 is not expensive!

Your ignoring the fact that we have to pay taxes so its more expensive here. By the way the us is cheap. A McChicken is $4.69 here and in the states i bought it for $1.

right cause the us doesn't tax any of there products, they pay very minute taxes compared to canadians, although if your in Alberta this system was the cheapest for you. I am speaking from a perspective that Sony was losing the most money in Canada, its not like they see any of the green from taxes, thats all for the gov't, but yeah taxes are a pain in the ass, craiglist/ebay is the way to go

You have my sympathies. But I'm in Hamilton here, and EVERYWHERE aside from Best Buy and Future Shop it's 659 (752 after tax). Even at the Sony Store it's 659, Walmart, EB and so on.

First of all i saw that at best buy to its probably on sale because at walmart, futureshop and eb regular games are 69.99 sometimes less if there is a sale. Also if you dont live in canada just give up.

alright sir, how much tax do you pay in the US? we pay a 14% tax here, that is, according to your calculation,
659 * 1.14 = 751.26$ after taxes
and that is equal to 655.66 USD, that is655.66 - 599 =56.66 USD of tax (9.5%), unless this is the amount you pay in extra because of tax, otherwise, all your calculations are just not valid as a result the conclusion is we pay more than you US people for the same stuff

But our taxes arent completely useless thanks to them we have one of the best health care systems in the world. You just go into the hospital show them your health card and you just walk in to get some treatment.

I am speaking from a perspective that Sony was losing the most money in Canada, its not like they see any of the green from taxes, thats all for the gov't, but yeah taxes are a pain in the ass, craiglist/ebay is the way to go navstar29

and you were argueing that Canadianswere enjoying the cheapest PS3s at launch, therefore you put up all your numbers
now you're saying thatSony was losing the most money in Canada, so what? we're still paying more, the point is WE the consumers are paying more, not whether our government is benefiting or Sony is losing money.
