Trophies.
It's called trophies. Instead of giving you different amounts of gamerscore for an achievement, you are given either a bronze, silver, gold, or platinum trophy. The bronze are for the easy stuff, the silver are a little more special, and the gold are the really good trophies. And if you collect every trophy in a game you get the Platinum. For multiplats the trophies and achievements are the same (same requirements, same name,) it's just that you get a trophy instead of an achievement with gamerscore.

Yea pretty much sums that up.
Yeah, it is called the trophy system. Not all games have them though. A lot of older titles from 2006-2008 do not have them.GrandJury
your gif really jams up the bandwidth.
And if i may add, trophies are also better than achievements in that they are more representative of what type of gamer you are, among a few other features.
