i use wireless internet for my ps3, the console is in my bedroom and the modem is in a different room about 20 metres away. it takes me a long time to download stuff like the ps3 system software update, i think it takes about 2 hours or so to download. getting something of psn store like the exclusive joker challenge maps takes me about 2-3 hours. and i am struggling to get into games in mw2.

so my question is, will putting the ps3 in the same room as the modem (about 1 or 2 metres away from it) make my internet speed on the ps3 alot quicker or is my internet bad and i will waste my time moving it?

so pretty much will it make a good difference or not? or am i doomed with slow ps3 internet either way?

I would think that moving it closer would make the connection better. But if you move your ps3 that close, you might as well get an ethernet cable. That will make the connection faster.

Having it that far away shouldn't have a major effect on your speed. I'm guessing it's something with your internet, or internet settings. Maybe you need to forward a port or something, I don't know, I'm not that knowledgable when it comes to that sort of thing. The tubes are getting clogged!

I would guess its your internet speed. I have the same problem downloading stuff as I have a slow connection (only 1.3 mbps download and .32 mbps upload). Go to speedtest.net on either a home computer of yours or your PS3 and run the test. If you get anywhere below 2 mbps (like me) its most likely your internet speed.

Yes, your speed will be faster because the problem is the walls. No walls, faster speed. My bro had the same problem...

No, walls don't do that. Any speed difference from walls vs no walls would be negligable. Maybe if the walls are made of iron. :P

Mine goes through mutliple walls and a ceiling and it's just fine.

It reckon if you go closer itll give you a better internet speed.

Cause normally my ps3 is in my room, top floor, and our router is in the middle floor, basically under my room. And then i always get like 80-95%signal. Or 100.

And then when my mates came over we went to the bottomfloor to sleep and the console was only receiving 45% signal, even though it was basically under the router, so it does make a difference the distance.

My brother has his PS3 in his room and there are 2 walls between the PS3 and the modem and the signal strength is about 40%- and the download speed is too slow.

When he brings it about 4 meters far from the moden with one wall between them, the signal strength become 80%+ and the download speed 100 times faster. :)
