PS3 Upscaling

When playing a ps3 game that only suports 720p, does the ps3 upscale this game to 1080i and 1080p if my tv supports these resolutions or will it play in 720p?

And does this happen with blu ray movies aswell i.e upscale to best resolution that my TV supports?
