Yup, and if you have a component cable for your PS2, you can just go ahead and use that because they have the same port lol.
The port on the ps3 for component looks exactly like the one as the composite. If you have a ps2 the composite cables for that are exactly the same for ps3. Same port same size, same everything. But to answer your question component will give you an hd picture, not 1080p but you will definitely get HD.TM1
Component does give you 1080p.

Not really, depending on the TV you have depends on whether you get 1080p via component. Plus if you are upconverting DVD's you can't do it through component, only HDMI.
just use ur cable from the ps2 if ur strapped for cash cause if ur gonna get a hdmi cable dont go getting a cheap one youll want the best which could cost u round 200 bucksetcetcetc
Please don't listen to this guy, a $10 HDMI cable will work just as well as a $100 cable. The expensive cables are way overpriced and the cheap ones do the exact same thing.

Quoting for backup. He speaks the truth; cheap HDMI cables are just as good, sometimes even better than the "high end" models.
