I got my PS4 and will answer questions about the HDD swap. for those that know already there are videos out there already showing how to swap an HDD on a PS4, but you will have one more step to do to make that HDD work. If you just swap the HDD and just turn on the PS4, the console will not boot up since the HDD does not have the PS4 OS. Also there are 2 update files for the PS4 one which has the OS and another which doesnt, something which gamespot failed to mention in their video. Here is what you will have to do after changing your HDD.

  1. get a USB stick
  2. go here http://us.playstatio...stallationSteps and download the file
  3. once downloaded, format that USB stick to FAT32
  4. make a folder PS4
  5. inside the PS4 folder make a UPDATE folder
  6. copy the file inside update
  7. Plug the USB stick in the USB port in the PS4
  8. turn your PS4 console on in Safe mode by holding the PS4 power button until you hear a beep after 7 seconds
  9. choose the option all the way in the bottom which says "re-initialize"
  10. and thats it

Did not work for me. I got a error code. something about not being able to access system memory. The original harddrive works fine. I may have to return my 1.5 TB HDD to Amazon for a swap out just to see if that HDD is defective.

yes you will if you going to get more games, and the mandatory installs depending on games can go really big so you will end up using that 500GB really fast

I decided to upgrade day 1 because every time I've had to swap out mid console life it's been a hassle. I figured I'd give myself a bigger buffer before the possibility of a needed swap out.

any USB memory stick works with the console, just make sure you format it to FAT32, also from Sony's site it says

"USB storage device, such as a USB* flash drive

* There must be 1 GB of free space."
