Franchises you feel Sony's been neglecting

One of the franchises I was really looking to see on the PS3 was a Syphon Filter. I have very fond memories of playing the first one on the PS1 and the last 2 chapters for the PSP, but sadly it seams we might never see it land on the PS3.

What do you guys think? 

Should have been another Legend of Dragoon game.

Legend of Dragoon was supposed to be made, but it just never happened.  Sony does not really need to reboot Medieval at this time.  It already has God of War and Heavenly Sowrd plus other hack n slash games from third parties.  I do not take Naughty Dog's excuse of not being able to figure out  how to make Jack and Daxter work on PS3.  I think Naughty Dog saw the sales of Ratchet and Clank and said forget it.  The Uncharted games have been selling somewhere between 4 to 5 million a piece.  Why make a title that might not even hit a million.  Sly Cooper came out and look at the sales for that game.  It did ok for no advertising, but the title will probably sell somewhere around 300,000 during its lifetime.  Cartoony platformers do not sell that well unless it is on a Nintendo platform.  The first Little Big Planet sold pretty good, but the second one only sold half as much.  The only other missing franchise would be Syphon Filter, and the rumors have rumbling for that game for quite awhile.

Medievil- i love the tim burtonesque feel of the games but the gameplay needs an overhaul. The guy who said we don't need a new one b/c of HS and GoW, we havent gotten a new HSin nearly 6 year and probably won't be getting one. As for GoW, it's probably best that it be given a break

I also commented on third party software as well.  We do not need another hack n slash game.  We already have games like God of War, Heavenly Sword, Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Dynasty Warriors, Castlevania, and so on.  Sony needs to form a studio to make RPG's.  The company has Prolyphony Digital and Evolution for racing games, Guerrilla for shooters, Sucker Punch and Naught Dog for third person action/adventure games, Team Ico for quirky Japanese games that will never come out, Sony San Diego for sports titles, Sony Santa Monica for hack n slash games,  and Sony London for party games.  Sony also own the rights to White Knight Chronicles, Ratchet and Clank, Mod Nation Racers, and other titles.  Level 5 might want to make games for other platforms outside of Professor Layton.  

What would even be the hook for a Medievil reboot?  Sony has so many third person adventure IPs already.  Bringing back another third person game would just over-saturate what is already out at the moment.

I was also looking forward to Syphon Filter on PS3. It saw regular releases from 1999-2007 then abandoned for whatever reason, perhaps because Uncharted is more popular now.Floppy_Jim

Studio Bend went on to make Resistance Retribution on PSP and Uncharted on Vita.  I am pretty sure Syphon Filter will come out again.  There has been too many rumors about the franchise resurfacing for it not to be true.  Whether it is a PS Vita, PS3, or PS4 title remains to be seen.  My vote goes for PS4 or PS Vita.  Sony needs to start letting the PS3 candle grow dim and give people more reasons get a Vita and buy a PS4 early in its lifecycle.

You can define "neglected" in two ways.  Either that the company hasn't relesed a game for this gen or that the franchise quality has slipped.

I dont think sony's neglected any of it's own franchises.  The respective companies have, for instance:

and to a lesser or greater degree, Resident Evil (both game for this gen have sucked hard)

Fatal frame (project Zero) (We need another one of those on the next gen systems, I want the crap scared out of me again!)

Kingdow hearts and Final fantasy (This gen it's been a case of "Oh, Dear" instead of "Oh, Yeah")

We'll just leave it there shall we?

The main KH team is working on Versus, there's no way it will be a launch title.

Some of these games being listed in the thread...Sony has absolutely nothing to do with them not coming out. Kingdom Hearts, Jak and Daxter? That's something to look at the developers for, not Sony.

Sony brings back old IPs and invents new ones.  This poster was saying that Jak and Daxter has nothing to do with Sony, but Sony owns that particular IP.

Syphon Filter after the ending to Logan's Shadow I was expecting another one to follow it not a game like Combat Ops a game that was only focused on multiplayer.  It's a shame the PS3 hasn't had a Syphon Filter game however I wouldn't mind seeing one on the Vita I'd buy it day 1.

I would feel good if Medievil would come back and Hevenly Sword, because only one game and on the start of the PS3 is not a very memorable one, even though i love this game. Than i think Legacy of Kain would be great for comming back and Fear Effect
