Can someone explain Driveclub to me?

I was extremely pumped up for it since I heard about it. But then I heard it'll mostly rely on online multiplayer. Will it have local/couch multiplayer as well? And a whole buncha cars you can only get through DLC's. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?
