I'm meeting up with a person on craigslist for a playstation 3 80gb. Is $140 for the system a good price?

Also, what should I be looking for when I check out the playstation?

Thanks.

I strongly recommend against buying it used, especially it's a non-slim

If you have to, inspect the serial number and hope it's the last 80gb model. Backwards compatible model definitely a big no-no. Check wikipedia.

I already set up an appointment for tomorrow to meet up with him.

I might just go for it, the 80gb isn't backwards compatible from what I've heard, right? What should I be looking for when I test out the playstation 3?

If it was a Slim I'd say go for it. My 80GB died on my a couple years ago

Make him prove that it works before you fork over money.

Even if you test it and it works, it doesn't mean that it is fine. Lot of people temporarily fix a ps3 that suffered ylod and quickly sell it. It works for a month and then it is breaks again.

Do yourself a favor and save your money and buy new console. Craigslist is not the way to go you never know what you're going to get and who you're actually meeting and what their intentions actually are.

When will people learn? NEVER BUY USED VIDEO GAME SYSTEMS. Used games? Yes. Used systems? No. Craigslist is the place to dumped YLOD playstation 3s that working temporarily. At least with ebay, you can look at someone's reputation and if you see that they have 1,000 positive reviews with 100% feedback, you could be more trusting and take a chance. I still wouldn't. The savings isn't even that big to take the risk.

i agree with everyone else. stay away from used. if you MUST buy it, check the warrantee sticker. See if its been tampered with/peeled off and replaced/cut/etc. if so, it means they had to go into the system, likely to "fix" ylod. (spoiler: the ylod fix is only temporary. it WILL break again. its just a matter of how long.). if it has been tampered with, then drive away fast.

note: huge giveaway is if says VOID on the sticker.

if the sticker is missing, thats the same as it saying void.

You do know there is a good chance of a price drop in a few months right?

Make sure its not a damn demonstration console like I purchased on ebay. You have to put in a security code for it to fully function...........every start up. The latest firmware 4.11 version security code is REALLY f'n hard to find and I can't do jack with it now except just play games in single player. I hope the person you're getting it from isn't suffering the same bs as I am and just trying to screw ya. Save yourself some frustration and DEFINATELY inspect before purchase! Good luck to you.
