But I need your advice on this.

I can't decide between which tv to buy,

This. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5420917

or

Thats actually a tough decision... at first glance I would immediately say buy the Sony, because 1) I would never buy a TV from Wal-Mart, 2) I've never even heard of the brand and 3) its a lot smaller. But I don't know if you want to give up 1080p. I'm no HDTV expert either so I guess you would have to decide for yourself, if 1080p is REALLY important to you or not.

Dont waste your money on the cheap brands. Go with a Sony and be happy with yourself and your TV.

Also is there really any huge difference between 1080p and 1080i?

Yeah, but the Sony one are 500 extra, I want to buy a cheap tv that is of high quality and have 1080p.

There's a straight answer...is there any difference between a Sony tv or a Samsung tv?

I would go with the Sony as 1080p won't be that noticeable on a 37" set.   However, if I were you I would go with the 50" HLS series DLP from Samsung on Amazon.com for $1159.  It's a 720p and very nice with two HDMI ports.  I have the 56" 1080p version and I love it.  I ordered it from Amazon as well and the shipping is free and there is no sales tax. I had it in less than a week.  They even came in and unboxed it for me.

I would pick up a 1080p set, and dispite what some will say, there is a big difference between 1080i and p. On a 1080i set you only get every other line, so you are getting 540 lines per image, vs 1080 lines on a 1080 p set. If you get a 1080i set, you might as well set it to 720p, since that gives 720 lines per image vs the 540 lines on the 1080i setting. It makes a big difference on anything with movement.

this is basically what i was about to write, go with the DLP if you have the little extra room depth wise, and if you dont have to wall mount it. they are great picture TV's, amazing bang for the buck, as you can get large screen sizes at 1080P for almost half the price of comparable units of the other technologies, my parents have the Samsung 42" 720P, and that one looks fantastic, and costs the same as my 32" LG LCD tv, so hard to complain if you have the room, do DLP, you wont be disappointed
