I don't know which game is close to impossible to finish w/o using a walkthrough but I usually use walkthroughs when I've been stuck in a certain part of a game for a while.
I never cheat because a game is too hard. I use a walkthrough now and then when I'm stuck, but never right from the start. In DMC3 there's a puzzle in mission 5 which made the game harder than most point & click adventures I have and all Zelda games. It requires a lot of imagination, or boredom. If I tried long enough and I got bored I could've figured it out by accident.
I never used a faq unless it was for some sidequest, like getting the ultimate weapons in FFs. RE and Dino Crisis were the ones that were the harder to me, mostly because I played those when I was younger. I havent used a faq to pass something ever, not in Zeldas, not in the temple were you get Bahamut in FF X and not in the Great Cristal in FF XII in order to get Excalibur and Ultima
Haven't found one yet. People who can't finish games without cheats are lame. I guess there are games that are difficult and drive U into reading walkthroughs, but I don't think there are any on consoles. Maybe games that are on foreign languages that one does not understand might push one into reading walkthroughs. Although why would one play a game which one can not understand...
Last time I remember using cheats was towards the end of GTA III. I found the last several missions to be very frustrating, so I used the health cheats and some other stuff.
Also, I tend to use a guide whenever I get lost. I find lately that I have far less patience with games than I did when I was younger, so I'd rather move the game along with a guide rather than spend time aimlessly figuring out what I need to do.
i dont like use faqs but somtimes they made something in the game, that you can't figure it out by yourself. But you can still finish the game. FAQs ruin the "main story" in my opinion.
tomb raider the last revalation for the ps is litteraly impossibe, unless you stumble onto the secret by accident. theres this one part were your in this room filled with fire and you have to jump on the 50 tiles ina very specific order or u burn. there is no way you could do that on perpous....i mean come on
If you wanna get EVERYTHING done in a final fantasy game, such as FF10 or 12, at one point you WILL have to use a walkthrough unless u are like extremely pro and can play the game for the 1st time and get it done w/o any walkthroughs. Oh, and also Dragon Quest 8, lots of extra stuff thats easy to miss.
to finish any of those final fantasies is ok, but to get their secret/best weapons without any guide is quite a pain.. u need to go through all of the npc's dialogue and figure it out..
but if u ask me, i think it's soul reaver and soul reaver 2.. the game is damn confusing.. maybe coz it has 2 realms in it but hey i dunno.. this is me, aye?
I can't see how people can finish some RPGs with 100% without walkthroughs, because some of the sidequests take ages to find and do. I don't cheat, but for side-quests I use walkthroughs. Also, the GTas with their hidden packages, and unique jumps, I can't see how anyone cancare enough to search everywhere without a walkthrough.

Haha! I know BHG is a big headache. I destroyed him with the help of my brother. I memorized dots 1-4 then he memorized 5-8. Only 1 attempt with that strategy. :lol:
Iron Tank for the NES. I doubt anyone here has played it or even heard of it but it is so damn hard. Had to use a game genie(basically gameshark/AR back in the day) in order to beat it.
To complete it 100%: lots. Disgaea 1/2, GTA, FF, Chrono Trigger... seriously, lots!!!

the only games i used faq so far on the PS2 are GTA:SA (after beating the normal storyline) and the SandWorm Colossus...
and even with FAQ GTA:SA cost me 110+ hours just for the 100% (i must hav played more than 250 hours when rolling around and just hav in 2 players... nice addition this was
no game is impossible to beat without cheating or guided by walkthrough.. i use walkthrough when i'm stuck at some point in the game. and thats about it. only walkthrough. but GTA games. i use cheats cuz its fun. haha. running away from cops and going on a killing spree. lolz.

I don't use cheats, mate... I mean't walkthroughs.
And while some side quest on evey RPG are quite obvious, some other are almost impossible to even know they are there.
Take Chrono Trigger for example: I doubt that without any kind of help you would've known it had those many endings. Same with Disgaea... and lots others!!!
