First game I ever played online was Halo on the PC back in the summer of 2004. Thats when I started getting into PC gaming since before my computer was incapable of any type of midend-required applications
First MMORPG was Earth and Beyond. I really liked that you could get out of your ships and mingle with other pilots, just a shame theat they killed it...:(
Half Life 1, and it wasn't a good experience. I got hacked in my second game and had to reinstall windows because after the computer crashed it wouldn't reboot. I have never played another valve or Half Life based game online since.
Asheron's Call blew me away the first time i saw it, so went out and bought my first (real) computer when i started having dreams about it..after seeing i in action for just 20 minutes! now i am hopelessly addicted to far too many online and offline games....ah well, i did not really need a social life beyond my wife anyway...randallowen

Halo 2 was my first time really experiencing online play and that got me hooked, now I wont even pick up a game unless it has some time of online play.=)
Call me a latecomer, but it was BF1942. I tried some MMORPG's later to see if they were all they were supposedly cracked up to be, but I hated them and thought they were boring, despite the fact that I kept having to pay ~$12 every month for the torment.
Diablo not long after it came out, it was also one of my most memorable. Had a few friends I'd meet with and just level up with. met people over the world and spent lots of time avoiding pkers. I used to love playing with them as soon as I saw someone enter with 40 ears :P I had one friend who was a bit younger than me, we'd meet up almost every night, until weeks went past and I didn't see him. He just disappeared and not long after I stopped playing :(
Tribes was the first fps game I played online, also one of my favourites.

Thats because Battle.Net was launched with Diablo and was the first mainstream network that didn't flop. Before Diablo there weren't any servers so you could only direct connect or use a lan

Well thats a tuff question as it's been almost 20 years since I was dialing up my favorite BBS and played the heck out of most of the popular Door games back in the day. My fondest recollection and probably my first online game would have to be L.O.R.D. (legend of the red dragon) a text based adventure rpg that was one of the newest games of it's time to use what was called RIP grafix which were a huge leap for the time from most door games that used ascii..or was it ansi I forget heh. I believe I was using a 300baud modem at the time and a few short years later approx 1994 I got a 2400baud and was playing a truley realtime online game called R.O.T.T (Rise of the Triad) and the original Doom.
Man, I remembered it like it was yesterday: a very brief game of Total Annihilation on Boneyards. Map was Comet Catcher, with me starting in the east. Don't ask me how I remembered that.
Tribes 2. So many awesome memories from that game, and I could play on 56K! Gotta love the disc launcher (was it called the Spinfusor? I cant remember)
I'm sure it was a MUDD but I can't remember which one. My first 3D online game would have been Quake 2 and my first MMO would have been Asheron's Call.
Oh...I have played so many games that I have lost track, but I think my first online game must have been starcraft...tough in my opinion the single palyer was far more addictive...UT 2004 was the the first game that was realy fun to play online...and Guild Wars ...playd the game till i got level 21 and then it got boring...but CS:S is the most fun i'v had online...have been playing it since it came out...

Long time ago :P I remember playing through the phone lines, hehe. Enter your friend's phone number and connect that way. God I hated that 14.4 modem...
You guys remember having to call your friend on the phone "hey, alright when we hang up imma call you so leave ur comp on answer ready?! 3...2...1... K BYE"
