Out of the games I have played this year, I would also say Mass Effect 2.

However, I have not played Fallout: NV, Star Craft 2, Mafia 2, and there might be more I can't think of. I would expect Star Craft 2, New Vegas or Mass Effect 2 to take offical GOTY awards.

+1, although the dlc was expensive it certainly added to the replay value.

Mass Effect 2, also might I remind people that this is the PC forum so RDR wouldn't be a valid pick.

Oh please hush. The topic didn't say pc goty. Just because we are in a pc forum does not mean a pc gamer cannot say what their goty was on any platform. Quit trying to police the boards unnecessarily. You cannot tell me or anyone that my personal pick for goty is invalid

Oh, whoops! I totally thought I was posting on the General Games forum. Silly me.

In that case err... yeah, on the PC I guess it was Mass Effect 2. Although I don't think it was really anything amazingly special. A very good game, but I'm surprised I can't think of any better PC games that I've played this year.

If we are talking strictly about games released in 2010, then it would be Mass Effect 2.

However, I played a number of older games this year, too, and out of those games, I would pick Metal Gear Solid 4.

Fallout New Vegas wins, with Mass Effect 2 as a close second.

RDR looks awesome, I really hope it comes to the PC (I'd take it over GTA V any day)

As much as I enjoyed Mass Effect 2 there are way too many flaws in the gameplay for me to class it as GOTY (that god awful mining mini game automatically disqualifies it in my books). If I had to choose I would go with either Fallout New Vegas or Starcraft 2 and since Blizzard did such an excellent job of doing a PC orientated game I will go with Starcraft 2.

Maybe it has been good enough for you. But I will go out on a limb here guessing I am a older pc gamer and was around the pc gaming scene much longer to know that our options now are nowhere near as good as they were in the good ole days of pc gaming.

Sadly, I have to agree.

I don't think the current state of PC gaming is as grim as some people would have us believe, but it's definitely not in its finest hour at the moment.

I dont want to say that RDR isnt a good game..its my favorite console game by far.. but please..Pc gaming is in a healthy state right now.. with games like Mount & blade, STALKER, Recettear, The Witcher, Drakensang, Kings Bounty, Dins Curse, Amnesia, Minecraft, Starcraft 2, X3 Terran Conflict, Civ5, etc... yet it doesnt matter to you since we dont have console games like RDR:?

I've played many of those games you listed, and while they were good or even great, even the pc gaming heart in me could not allow myself to say they were better than my current goty choice. (STALKER? that's about three years old now. I'm talking current events. And even 3 years ago it was no way near GOTY material).

Interesting, you and others mock games like RDR for being a console game. Yet many of the same people still allow yourselves to play multiplatform games that have been ported to the pc. Look at all the people here who say Mass Effect 2 is there pc game of the year. If that ain't a console game, then I don't know what is.

My GOTY on PC so far has to be Stalker: Call of Pripyat...which came out this year.. BTW Stalker was in every way a GOTY contender...it completely brought something new to the FPS genre.. I think gamespot said it best..

"This first-person survival game is at times amazing and engrossing and on par with such cla.ssics as Deus Ex and System Shock."

"S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is definitely a game that deserves to be played. For first-person shooter fans looking for the next big thing in the genre"

But Gamespot never said it was a goty contender. I'm not saying it wasn't any good. I actually enjoyed it alot and appreciated much of the things pointed out. Yet, it also had much too many flaws and shortcomings holding it back from being the game it was originally intended and should have been when development started about 8 years ago.

New Vegas, no question. Starcraft 2's good too, but it wasn't quite as enjoyable as Obsidian's latest title as far as I'm concerned.

Stalker: SoC is one of my favorite games from this gen, along with FEAR and Company of Heroes. Such a fantastic game. Call of Pripyat is probably the most refined Stalker yet.

ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead

ME2 was great, but the ending kept it from being amazing... I feel like they really just copped out, and did something pretty generic/not-significant. I know that's vague, but I don't want to give spoilers...

So, I would have to go with Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Best game I've played in a few years.

Mafia 2? Are you friggin' kidding me? lol That game was such a butchered mess it was actually painful. Dissapointment of the year perhaps?

Mass Effect 2 is my pick. BioWare really put a lot of effort into it and it shows big time.

Other honourable mentions:

BioShock 2 - I seem to be one of the few people who enjoyed this game.

Assassin's Creed II (PC Release) - Awesome freedom of movement, amazingly detailed setting, awesome graphics. Fun to play.

Just Cause 2 - destructible environments and interesting gameplay dynamics.

Fallout New Vegas - this game kinda speaks for itself.

Yes Bioware sure put a lof of effort into it.

Whether is the low res textures, the bad PC controls or the removed elements from the first one. Really tons of effort . So much variety of gameplay...

Here's the game summarized :

Linear corridor shotouts levels for five minutes.

Half an hour of walking around the ship talking to people. Repeat twelve times. Game of the generation?

Hey man, you forgot about the squad loyalty quests! where you walk around your ship, talk to your squad mates, take part in a 10 minute corridor shootout, repeat 10x... oh wait.

How can you play ME2 that many times? I bought it, beat it, and sold it first chance I got. Its not...THAT great. Same story any way you slice it besides the alternates at the end that didnt truly add THAT much variety. If someone died...you got one ending, if none died you got another ending, if all died...another ending. BUT all the while the Illusive Man was still a douche and Shepards crew was the enemy again.

Because I enjoyed it? Same reason why I watched the original Star Wars trilogy over and over again. Also I will take a well-crafted single-player game (and beat it several times) over MP centric games.

Gothic 4 Arcania.dakan45

wow, realy?

I enjoyed Gothic 4, don't get me wrong, its just...so simple. Simplicity is a virtue in many genres, but not in RPGs in my opinion.

What made you enjoy it so much?
