I have just got the Windows 7 RC and I've installed Fallout 3 from Steam and copied over all my saves and mods from XP, after not being able to sign into GFWL for ages I have finally got to playing the game, I'm currently on the final mission, leaving the citadel with Liberty Prime (from an old save), the first time I tried playing it had this lag or stutter regularly every few seconds, and then the game crashed by the time I got to the first force field at the bridge. I tried again in administrator mode and got a lot further but still had the stutter/lag.

Anyone know of any fixes for this? I've had a quick look around google but after spending all day yesterday searching for a fix for gfwl and then finding out at 1 in the morning that all i had to do was quit Xfire I don't really want to spend ages today searching ;):p

I have 'archive invalidation invalidated' enabled which said that the game could behave strangely if it's installed in program files on Vista or Windows 7 and it's enabled. But it didn't specify what sort of behaviour it would cause, does anyone know? and if I do have to take it out of program files to work properly is there any way I can do this without uninstalling Fallout3 and Steam then installing Steam out of Prog files then reinstalling F3? :?

Your system looks fine, are you running any background applications?

Also, are you running any mods? Patches? Latest drivers?

My system runs it fine, I'm using Win7 32 bit, so it shouldn't be a software compatibility.

I tried disabling all background apps other than Steam (obviously) and Live Messenger, I'm running a bunch of mods, but they're all exactly the same as what I was running on my XP install of the game, I have the latest patch and I had the latest drivers, but after reading a thread elsewhere that said the most recent drivers were causing problems with Fallout 3 I rolled back to 186.18 drivers. It improves slightly when I turned the settings to medium, I'm running it on high atm, but on XP I had it on Ultra.

Why don't you try it with certain mods disabled, or disable them all and reenable one by one until you find the mod that is causing problems on your new system.

Ok, that's wierd, I turned the settings UP and it worked better :? Well, thats a very convenient fix  Seems fine now, haven't a clue why it would do that though.
