I'm looking to buy a 'new' laptop, now i don't use my current laptop (Dell Inspiron N5010) for much more than browsing the internet and watching films/tv programs. But what i do want is a 17-18 inch HD screen (Real Hd such as 1080p)and a descent Graphics card so i can at least play semi recent PC exclusives.

My dell is not very good for gaming, i recently tried playing Eve online on low settings which did work but started lagging like mad once i hit bigger areas. So i've been looking through ebay at different laptops and i've deicded on one of these.

(1) Acer Aspire 8942G - i7 820QM ATI 5850 6GB 128gb SSD 500GB Hybrid SATA Laptop

(2) HP Pavilion DV8 Laptop Intel core i7
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261155918618?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1426.l2649

I'm aiming around paying £350, any advice would be splendid :D

The Acer *appears* to be a better buy, but you're always gonna be gambling when buying used.

I've bought plenty of laptops from ebay over the years, i know they don't have warrentys etc. That doesn't bother me. If they break i will attempt to fix them and if that's not possible i sell them. But the acer is looking to be the better one then?

Acer looks better but if you don't mind grabbing a screwdriver or soldering iron you could fix the HP and get a bargain. However I'd likely get the Acer myself as it definitely sounds to have been well looked after, no sitting on the bed being cooked or full of dust or anything. The HP seems pretty neglected where the only thing done to fix it was because the dude couldn't get Wifi working.

Do you think the Acer is worth the price tag though?

I'd say it was fair, it's not a bargain but it's not overpriced either. Brand new you'd easily pay £600+ for something similar.

I think i may try for the HP Pavillion as it has all the installation disks which i could use if the hard drive were to go.

Installation discs are pretty easy to find online though... I don't think buying a computer that admittedly has some issues just to have them is a good idea. As for the value of the Acer, you won't be able to find equivalent parts in a new computer for that price, but it still might be priced a little to high for a used computer, but it's definitely not a bad value.
