Ok I don't know if it's credible or not, but I refuse to believe that, I just...can't... we've hardly pushed DX10 at all, it's been here for like what...a year?
I'm sorry, I just can't believe that (hell, I didn't even read the article! It could be joking for all I know.)
I'll still be sticking with XP, no memory hogging OS trying to hard to look pretty is gonna convince me to move on just so I experience more problems!
I'm not sure how you derived DX11 coming out in 2009 from that article but I have read other articles that say DX11 will be here in 09..."We have found that Microsoft..." But I've never seen anything from MS, or something with a verifiable source. We all know MS and their tendency to put out premature buggy junk. Realistically we will probably start feeling it well after 2010 IMHO.

I don't believe it either.
'According to "reliable sources" close to The Inquirer'
Stopped reading there. The Inquirer is about nothing but rumors, which are often incorrect or skewed.
EDIT - Okay, I decided to skim through the whole thing, and now I feel stupid. It's saying DX11 won't be on the scene for Vienna (which means we won't see DX11 at all anytime soon).
Vista, though it doesn't look much like Vista anymore.
Vista is fine once you get rid some of the crap that's enabled by default. Superfetch seems to be the cause of the excessive memory consumption and constant harddrive grinding present in Vista. I ran with it enabled for the longest time (it helped with program responsiveness a bit,) but I've finally disabled it when I found out it caused the HDD grinding. The file indexing service is pretty useless to most users; I disabled that too (as it causes terrible file transfer speeds and periodic HDD grinding.) Things like UAC and Windows Defender are also worth disabling if you're a power user.

Don't confuse "The Inquirer" with "The National Inquirer."
Even with predictions based on "insider info," The Inquirer seems to be accurate more often than not.
Edit: Wow, lots of typos tonight.
XP. Everything related to my computer defers to gaming, so I won't be switching to Vista until there's a few Vista-only games I really want to play, and I don't see that happening this year.
But when I do end up making the change, I'll still have a junk XP PC just in case my older stuff doesn't run okay in Vista. Life without System Shock 2... that's just not life.

You might as well switch now - I have had little problems with Vista.

Yeah, but do you play games made during the 1994-1998 era? I play quite a few, and I don't want to risk even one of them not working properly.
Vista Ultimate. It runs pretty smooth. As for gaming, I have noticed no significant slowdown. Then again, I'm not a power gamer, so some games might have issues.
Asides from gaming, I use OSX 10.4.11

is that KDE? how did you get it to run with Vista?
Windows XP Professional.
Just installed it yesterday, after 2 months of Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit use. I like it a lot better than Vista. With help of new nVidia drivers and the 1.1 Crysis patch, the game runs at a solid 35-40fps framerate, unlike varying from 15 to 25 fps in Vista on DX9. I'm not even talking about DX10 performance...
I don't think I'm going to go back for a while.

No sir. It's a few things:
Bottom and left docks = ObjectDock
System Tray = ObjectDock
Clock/Calendar = Rainmeter
Media Player Remote at the top = Rainmeter with a Winamp API emulator to make it compatible with foobar2000 (the foobar2000 plug-in is called "Winamp spam.")
ObjectDock has a some quirky behaviors at times, but it's a great taskbar and desktop icon replacement.
I also use "Vistaglazz" (lame name, I know) which adds some enhancements to Aero. Additionally, I use a program called "Switcher" (an exposé clone) which makes multi-tasking with my non-existent task bar much easier.
The skins and icons are from Deviantart. All of these programs have a pretty small footprint..ObjectDock consumes ~5MB of memory, Rainmeter = ~2MB, and Switcher about 8MB. Pretty happy with my desktop environment at the moment, though I'm still constantly changing crap around.
Edit: Wow..I somehow mixed the name "foobar2000" up with "Amarok" o_O
