I will get a new video card soon after christmas, but i need to get an idea of which one. I have 5870 crossfire on a MSI X58 platinum board, I7 920 cpu and corsair 850 psu. So what mid range card can i put in, i want at least 7870 or better power.

R9 290 if they're still around by then. If you can spend a little more then get an R9 390 or GTX 970 (they're the same price).

If R9 290 isn't around by then.. you can consider getting an R9 380X (it's a little weaker) but it's a 4GB card as well.

I would suggest R9 380 4GB which can be found from $179 and its only around 10% slower than R9 380X, but is also 25% ($50) cheaper.

And ofc, is faster than 7870 at least by 30%.
