Is this just for one torrent site or all? If it is all, the numbers seems a bit low compared to the what the developers keep quoting....

They picked the top 1 or 2 most popular trackers, which are basically where 95% of total downloads come from. So yeah those numbers are fairly accurate. Devs love to quote big numbers to protect their poor sales.

Sneezing these days gets you tagged as a war criminal and ready for tribunal these days. And before you spew that I'm a Bush supporter or such, I can ensure you I'm not. Also being a Canadian means that I really have no direct feelings towards the guy.

Indeed. Developers work hard to make these games and push them out and pirates steal a huge chunk of their earnings. It's downright awful. It's a shame.

Remember, this is a forum. A place that uses text and images to get a point across. So don't get surprised when someone takes your comment serious. Best practice is, if you don't want people to take it seriously then don't post.

Thing is a lot of developers put out a half arsed game, so I feel sorry for the people buying their crap instead of them losing money. I had the chance to copy Fallout 3 but I went out and got it instead....GTA IV on the other hand...R* made a boat load off consoles they have no need to whine really. I wish i pirated that garbage Far Cry 2!

So is being a war criminal..hasnt stopped Bush...haha!

But it still doesnt make pirating games legal

im not supporting pirating at all with my comment that im about to say...

but you do realize that the ones running the legal system are the real criminals?

and the ones running them as well, also the ones that are running the ones that are running them...

the legal system is corrupt. extremely..

but that doesnt justify pirating, because while we are still in this crappy monitary system based economy, it isnt right to steal something while people are trying to make a living and revenue for upcoming games.

but on the other hand, it also isnt a reason for devs to make crappy pc versions of games that also appear on consoles, or poorly optimized games... or have software installed on your pc, (which gives the people i mentioned above a way to keep tabs)...

and i wouldnt be too suprised if my post gets removed from here.

if it does, then i guess it kinda speaks for itsself doesnt it?

Hm. Why the Sims 2? Jeez you think it would be cheap enough to buy now... Bring out more playable demos!! At least 5 of those do NOT have demos.

It's free. Besides, you can play multiplayer in a pirated CoD 4, it can only be done on certain servers, but it's possible.

but as one may think of that as insecurities and paranoia.... the "paranoid" ones might think of their lax'd and dismissal attitudes, as blind conformity, justified by denial. and enforced by fear.

but who would be right?

"Official source." How is that even possible? You cannot track piracy numbers like you can retail game sales. Pirates could download a single copy and burn it to hundreds or thousands of discs and sell them... thus you only get that one single download on you list.

"According to our estimates, Spore was downloaded 1.7 million times since early September, a record breaking figure for a game."

Estimates? That isn't very solid evidence. Record breaking? Since when has there been any records at all before the last couple years when developers and publishers have finally started crying about piracy and claiming it is killing PC gaming?

One cannot track piracy numbers with any sort of accuracy. Many of those torrent downloads could have been just the bittorrent launcher download and not the actual file data. Why must everyone complain about piracy and then proceed to do nothing about it? Isn't that some kind of hypocrisy?

Piracy is getting completely outrageous. If you don't have money for a game then don't buy it. If you don't want the DRM for a game, then don't buy the game. If you're pirating because there's no demo and you want to just try it out, then punch yourself in the jewels.

Thats all well and good, but the pirates crack a game andworkaround the DRM on the very same day, so whats the point giving consumers a headache?

DRM, in all likelyhood, is not only about piracy, and possibly not about piracy at all...

[QUOTE="jmnderson69"][QUOTE="Ghost_702"]Piracy is getting completely outrageous. If you don't have money for a game then don't buy it. If you don't want the DRM for a game, then don't buy the game. If you're pirating because there's no demo and you want to just try it out, then punch yourself in the jewels. Captain__Tripps
Thats all well and good, but the pirates crack a game andworkaround the DRM on the very same day, so whats the point giving consumers a headache?

DRM, in all likelyhood, is not only about piracy, and possibly not about piracy at all...

Care to clarify?

Its just as likely about controlling what legal users can do with the software, as piracy. You know, loaning the game out, reselling, giving it away, limiting shelf life, etc.

And this is the biggest thing about DRM that I hate. Once I buy something, I don't want to be limited in how I can use it.

According the to the games publishers, DRM makers, and the US DMCA law, yes you would be a pirate, or at least guilty of a crime, which sucks!
