ok, it wasn't the RTS that made me like RTS genre, but it was a nice game, anyone else remember playing this?

Yes, I have played this game. I think it was renamed "Steel Soliders" later on. It was great. Capture stragetic points on the map to speed up the automated soilder/jeep/tank factories while capturing zones on your enemy and their factories. Silly explosions and commentary.ok, it wasn't the RTS that made me like RTS genre, but it was a nice game, anyone else remember playing this?

I remember that one. I played about 6 or 7 levels... The cinematics were hilarious.
I dont remember exactly which was the first RTS that I played. But it sure was either C&C, Warcraft 2 or Dune 2...
Z.. yes.. "your gonna loose"... "for Christ's sake DO SOMETHING!" .. yes I remember it well.Alkpaz
Yeah, I loved my favorite tactic. In the first levels I would mount a great army of Rocket Launcher units and send them all to the enemy fortress. 4th of july!!
But I ended that game once. GOD IT WAS HARD! when I destroyed the Blue Fortress in the last level I screamed (3 a.m.) DIE MOT********, DIE!
Herzog Zwei was the first one I played on the Genesis, it was an action RTS and it was very good. First pc RTS I played was Warcraft:Orcs & Humans.apanizo
I bled Herzog Zwei for about 2 years when it came out. Awesome game. As is Z.
[QUOTE="Colonel_Cool"]Age of Empires 1 was my first RTS._reborn_
Oh ya, Z is one of the three games that made me fall in love with the RTS genre.
The other two were Dune 2 and Command and Conquer.
Z introduced me to RTS, while Red Alert 2 and Emperor:battle for dune made me love the genre.
What happened to westwood? Is it true it is now a part of EA?
My first few RTS were
Dune
Powermonger
Populous
All of them classic PC games. Dune is also the first game where the PC cheated like a maniac, as it kept spawning troops and didn't build them, although the fact they got the AI to actually challenge a human player in those days was still an achievement.
Interestingly, the AI didn't really cheat in Populous or Powermonger, as it tended to just use the resources it had.
I believe Dune was also my first RTS. Personally I despise the genre..... Not because of the games, but because I suck at them :) I suppose I just don't have a very strategic mind.... SuperBeastI am in the same boat as you lol I thought i was the bomb at rts games until I started playing these geniuses online. but its not like i loose every single time,so I guess I am somewhat good My first rts was Empire Earth which was pretty cool, but Company of Heroes is what really got me hooked

EA bought Westwood... and I think that they closed it... some Westwood guys are working directly for EA now...

Ya, Westwood was by itself, then EA obtained them. Then EA got rid of the Westwood name (biiiiiig mistake) and let EA LA get the C&C franchise name.
Last I heard, the Westwood founders and developers split up...one or two of 'em worked on Supreme Commander and then another one is working on this other game (forgot what its called, about earth defeating an alien invasion...Gamespot just did a preview of it).
