For the low, low price of $150, you too can own a Dragon Statue made of "high quality PVC", an artbook, "making of" DVD, and of course, the game! Hot dog!

And for those unfamliar with the material, PVC is plastic. Yes, a plastic dragon. Wonder how much it cost to build versus how much they're selling it for.

http://www.overclockersclub.com/news/28992/

Quick synopsis:
Game + 12" Statue + 200-page artbook + Making-of DVD = $150

Who buys collectors editions in the first place? I thought they were a rip even when they are only $10 more than the standard version. If someone finds value in this though, who am I to laugh at them? Everyone finds value in things that other people may not...

The statue looks awesome. You know most items of this kind are made of plastic, right? It's a great CE.

Seems like a relatively similar package to The Witcher 2 and The Old Republic which also ran a similar price tag so I don't know, seems par for the course. Dragon does look cool though, just not $150 cool for me.

What a last minute throw together. Give us some in game stuff, weapons, armor horse etc. I was going to get it but I think i'll pre order the regular version on steam.

I know Dragon's are the themes along with Norse mythology but I rather prefer the viking figure like the one shown in Skyrim previews. :P

I don't know, in-game items seem less practical in a Bethesda game than they do in say, ToR. With the toolset there will already be a plethora of unique content crafted to a wide variety of tastes plus any bonus content could be recreated with relative ease and released under a different name to avoid any conflicts with Bethesda. Not giving a couple of in-game items seems far less necessary here.

I'm just saying I prefer in game items, a cool mount that non CE people can't have that moves very fast would of been nice. A special house/tower/cave etc. for a home. $150.00? no thanks...

the price in such collector editions are generally due to exclusivity rather than quality. Dragon and book do look nice but not interested in the game

Unfortunately all I remember from that was people saying how everything was way below expected quality especially with the statue which apparently a lot of people received chipped and broken. Was an awesome package though.

hmm... pay an extra $90 (!!!) for a dragon statuette, making of DVD and an artbook, or save that extra money for the inevitable DLC, or another game or 2 with cash to spare? Such a hard decision... What a worthless CE.

I'd probably do it for $100, but its just too much. Everything looks really cool, though, but still nothing has beaten the Berlin Wall one (that was in a collector's edition of something, or am I just crazy?)

The thing is, I've seen CEs with similar packaging and items that go for about $80-90 usd. My suspicion is that the marketing department at Bethesda know how excited/anxious so many people are for a new TES game; it's been about five years, so the anticipation is pretty significant. I think they're jacking the price up because they know a lot of people will still buy the CE, even though it's way overpriced for the items included.

Well, if I didn't spend this kind of cash on the special limited coffin edition of Metallica's Death Magnetic album, then I'm definitely not going to spend this kind of cash on a game. Any game.

I fear this is a new trend with gaming company. Along with SW:TOR and pontentially Dues Ex charging $150 and using the figurine to justify such a price

what retailer is selling an $150 deus ex

150$?? Better put that money away, wait for Steam Winter sale and buy a few dozen games. Maybe even get Skyrim with a 10%-15% discount.

I think for $150 or whatever it should include a soundtrack cd and a guide book of some sort for the game.

DeViLzzz

OSTs are also a rip off, because in every game I've bought, there's a way to convert the soundtrack files and burn them to cds. OSTs used as a selling point are just another marketing gimmick. If you've already purchased the game, the music is included. It shouldn't be an extra cost.

A cool in-game mount or items would work for a MMO but not for a highly modded(which it would be) game like Skyrim.

You may not care for mods but I think thats a reason Beth is not doing that coz they know its going to be laughed at by its fans. The special in-game mount would not be exclusive if they know fans can actually recreate it or even do it better and more creatively with the toolset. People already made super grand castles and mansions and what not in Morrowind and Oblivion, such things won't impress many of its current fans and might just likely pissed off even new ones once they discovered how moddable the game is.

Personally, though, the only reason I'm buying any CE would be the making of DVDs and concept books. Thats always nice...but not for 150.

The price is ... lol worthy. But like someone said... They are selling them for this price because they know that some people will be willing to buy it for it. Even if the CE is more like 90$

Would you prefer them to make the statue out of solid stone? It is actually ridiculously expensive to produce a mould for a plastic model and to produce the machines to paint it that way. Sure they're still making a killer profit, but the material's cheapness shouldn't be your concern.

I would never pay 150 for something like that, but obviously people will so they may as well put something cool in there for those that do.

The return they would be getting from that mark up must be huge.
