Apparently, this game doesn't run well on a 1920x1080 resolution at the higher settings if you don't have at least 2GB worth of v-ram so I was wondering if it'd be a good idea to sell my 580 for the 660 ti bearing in mind that I can manage to sell the 580 at a decent enough price. Just a bit peeved that I didn't go ahead and get the 3GB 580 when I had the chance. :P

EDIT: I'm wanting around 60fps, BTW.

Which brand is the GTX 580? EVGA? If EVGA, you can get about $200-250. I just sold my Galaxy GTX 580 for $225 a few days ago. The jump from a 580 to 660ti isn't enough to justify an upgrade. Is it really using more than 1.5GB? I haven't noticed that much usage running my GTX 670 on ultra settings, and anti-aliasing (all max settings) at 1200p. If you're going to upgrade, get an AMD 7950/7970 or GTX 670 Signature 2 or MSI PE.

Whats your cpu btw?

I'll try getting a 7950 3gb, lots of vram.

I have an i5 2500k and yes, it's an EVGA.

I don't own the game yet, BTW, so I'm not exactly sure how it'll run on my PC first hand. I've just been looking at benchmarks and they've been saying that 2GB helps quite a bit.

Also upgraded from a 570 to a 7950. Best money I've ever spent. The temps went down from 85C to 70C under full load, and a 20-30 FPS boost in many games.

Before you replace your card, you should try the game first. Remember that settings like AA, Motion Blur and Vsync can be the easiest to lower or turn off to gain speed without affecting image quality too much.

im not a big fan of bioshock either.  Didn't really get into fallout/vegas, dragon age origins, skyrim, witcher 1 & 2, pretty much all the free roam rpg games.  I did play through and enjoy 100 hours of oblivion elder scrolls but even that was only half way through the game before I just dumped it and moved on.  I guess im too shallow/dumb to enjoy these deep and overly complicated rpg games.

While I can appreciate long action/RPG games, I, too end up moving on before too long. You aren't too shallow or dumb to enjoy them, you probably just enjoy more fast-action games.

GTX 670 runs the game at Ultra flawlessly.

The GTX 660 Ti has the same GPU engine specifications as the 670, but the difference is that the memory on the 670 is better - interface width and memory bandwidth.

You should run BioShock Infinite really well with 660 Ti. Almost identical to the 670.

Fine if you want to upgrade, but if you do I'd get something better than the 660ti if I were you.

I just sold my friend my old HD 4870 512MB and Bioshock Infinite ran at playable framerates on Ultra at 1920x1080, I doubt you need anything more than your GTX 580.

Update drivers, tone something down like AA, keep that GTX 580 for awhile longer and wait it out for the new line of cards coming from Nvidia & AMD.

I agree strongly with this statement. The upgrade difference is going to be small since the GTX 580 isn't that much slower than the 660Ti. Theres no real reason to upgrade right now (especially since you only game @1080p and bioshock 3 runs on the U3 engine).

Skryrim and fallout 3/vegas are my favorite games , along with dragon's dogma, dark souls. The witcher & dragons age origins i don't like, because of the gameplay. Same with bioshock infinite allthough i wouldn't really classify that game as an rpg. Just a plain action game to me and don't like that, dragon age origins is not enough action, that's just point & click rpg. As for the witcher, i don't know what's wrong with the game, but gameplay feels fake.

Stick with the 580 - remember that when they are advising 2GB of RAM they aren't specifically aiming it at one model of card, so what your 580 can do with 1.5GB will run circles around an older model card that does have 2GB.

You are not Downgrading it a Boost of 35% if you overclock it but a GTX 670 Would be a boost of 50% Althought I find the PP$ for 35-50% to be too big At current price unless you sucess to sell ur Card : id be amazed if i can sell my card 150$ of 325$ AFTER 25$ MIR & 15 IR I paid 2 year ago

Im Starting to Doubt Wether or not there Will be a GTX 780 / 770 / 760 as Kepler Refresh Before Nvidia Maxwell But I think nvidia is unlikely to Release Maxwell before spring 2014

I would keep the 580 there isnt a big enough jump in performance there imo to justify the upgrade + Infinite does not need 2GB on ultra. I play on ultra fine with 1GB. It mostly sits at around 980MB for me im guessing if you max the AA(i dont) its probably a little more but it seems like they designed it with 1GB cards in mind so 1.5GB is more certainly enough. + a 580 should run the game fine on ultra.

I can say With a GTX 570 OC At 875Mhz I can't max Bioshock infinite but I can put lot of Setting at near all ultra and get around 44 - 65 FPS with SSAO instead of HBAO and lowering and disabling anti aliasing it was enjoyable enough But I do want a GPU Upgrade By Summer

However I am Disappointed that i can't get a 75-85% Boost Per $ at the moment over GTX 570 OC but if i gotta pay around 400$+ to get the Boost I need to run next game to max that might be what i have to do I do have the money i just find the reason to upgrade if you get nothing of ur previous investment not satisfying

If only i ad the Guts To have success to Sell my CARD few month ago for 200-250$ like Did my Friend who live nearby  id have surely purchase a 300-350$ video card with the sums and have maxed Far cry 3 / Bioshock infinite with no FPS drop below 50 but yeah hardly any other game aside of that and metro 2033 / Crysis 3 that I can't max and have Alway Stable FPS

So Really unless you sell ur Card For 200$ there no reason to go below a GTX 670 + OC so Cross ur Finger and hope  Nvidia / AMD release something BETTER  this year or very early next year

Bioschok Infinite is really the only game I want that requires more from my machine. The reason I was looking at the 660 ti is because I really don't want to spend that much money for a single game and I was hoping to nearly break even with the costs of selling my 580 and buying the new card. Plus, according to benchmarks I've seen, the card seems like it can play without dropping under 50 fps too much whereas the 580 sits in the 40s which is too low for me. Here's a benchmark I was looking at, BTW.

Bearing in mind that more high end games that look appealing end up coming out, I'd prefer to make "the big upgrade," as some call it, when the 700 series comes out. This is really only to tide me over.

As for why I haven't gotten the game to test it out yet, I don't want to shell out 60 bucks only to realize that my 580 can't play it at what I consider an optimal frame rate. Selling my 580 for a good price and buying the new card is going to take a bit of time. If Infinite ends up going on sale in the span, I'd be rather peeved.

I guess my problem is just that I'm being pretty cheap at the moment. :P

I'm really confused. The benchmarks you posted showed upper 40s at a resolution higher than what you have with a GTX 580 at stock settings..... (your fine).

At worse you might have to overclock your GPU a bit or lower a setting or two to achieve 60FPS (keep your GTX 580 and upgrade early next year).

The only way I would even consider selling a GTX 580 for a GTX 660Ti is if you can somehow sell your GTX 580 for $250 (even then your going to spend $30-40 out of pocket for a card thats not that much faster and you won't really be able to sell it online since amazon/ebay takes a good % of the cut).

So if you are making an upgrade purely due to VRAM then you should look into a 3-4GB Ram card I think not a 2GB one. If games are already bottlenecking 1.5GB cards then it wouldnt be too long before that happens with 2GB.
