Can someone recommend a free antivirus program for my gaming PC? Something that is low on resources (at least relatively) and does a good job.
Thank you.

Always used AVG on all my 'pooters, never had a problem. Just installed it on my new Win7 laptop a few weeks back and had no probs with that either :)

Same. Right now MSE is the best option for good protection and low resource usage. This, I started using it over nod32. It's been getting good reviews as well.I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials, seems to work fine.

It's actually good? Serious question. Yeah, it's fine in the sense that it works, no bells and whistles, it just is a fine program. I, personally, use Avast, and I love it.Avast is THE best free gaming AV program as it uses a lot less resources compared to AVG & Avira and it also has a gaming mode so the pop-ups dont interfere with your game.
Avast sucks. I used it for a while and thought it was the bomb until I tried a few different ones that picked up and found billions of crap that avast missed. Avast sucks. Comodo is what I use atm and it gets the job done bigtime. Nothing getting through Comodo defense. My computer has been on for hours and the mem usage is only at 1,888k AHAHAHA.

avast is actually pretty good as far as free anti-viruses go. but in the internet security world.. you get what you pay for. (most of the time)
Microsoft Security Essentials - it's great, just sits there taking up hardly any resources (7MB, 0% CPU usage on this machine) doing it's thing. Best AV solution I've ever used, and the price is great.CellAnimationWhat price? Its free.
Same here. Its probably one of the best Anti-Virus systems I've used in a long time.I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials, seems to work fine.

Avira does create a window once in a while but it does not pop in front of your game window.madmennoi dont know if it has been fixed but avira used to minimize some of my games while i was playing them just for that window. i think i was using avira 8(?) i currently use microsoft security essentials and it works nicely. though i wouldn't really know unless i did a test on a computer without any AV.

You know you can turn that window off, right? ;)
[QUOTE="nikola96"]Yes it is, for people that don't want to do any research them selfs. Like i said AVG flags way to many files as hostile. I had to delete AVG from my gaming desktop after it prevented me from making changes in the option menus of Crysis.Avg 09 Free edition is the best.

[QUOTE="King9999"]How good is it? What about the resource usage? It uses almost nothing, its fast..........and its great. Just check out the reviews, its one of the best AV out there.I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials, seems to work fine.

AVG isn't really a good option anymore. It became bloated, slow, and its detection ratings don't compete anymore.
Avast Free Aniti-Virus and Common Sense; you may have to pay for the common sense :P

I agree with Common Sense. Any of the ones mentioned so far work well and are light on resources for a gaming machine (I personally use MSE and Spyware Blaster), but good judgment against suspicious sites, pop-ups, and e-mails is always your first and best line of defense.
