I have a dying PSU I am thinking of getting this.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817814015&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL121808&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL121808-_-PowerSupplies-_-LH2A-_-17814015

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817814014

I wonder though if Upgraded to that is cost effective. I currently have a dying 600w PSU.

Also will that PSU blow air into my case or suck air out of my case?

Thanks!

What are your system specs? Not many people need an 800w power supply, that seems like a bit of overkill.

In my opinion, the easiest way to pick out a decent power supply is to check out the ratings at Newegg.com. I saw your links to the site....you can sort the power supplies by rating and take a look at the reviews that people post there. OCZ, Thermaltake, and Antec are just some of the companies that make extremely reliable products.

The one I linked is about the same price with mail in rebate

Why is 100w less more expensive?

Also to the post above that is a 450w psu which is a big downgrade from my current.

Not neccessarily. Corsair PSUs usually have single 12V rails, which many don't. For example, a single rail with 36A has much, much more power than two 12Vs with 18A each. More on this here: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f282/kaitanuvax/PSUampsEXPLAINED.png

But the point is, take a good hard look at your computer. A good 600W PSU such as the one you have chosen can supply power to a GTX 280. You have an AMD CPU, which uses very little power, and an 8800GT, which uses little power also. Why do you need a 600W?

By the way, NEVER, EVER, trust mail in rebates. Half of the time the company will not honor them.

The reason I want a 700w or 600w is because I intend to go to a Quad core once they are better utilized on games. Which I hope will happen this year.

Then that OCZ will be perfect. You will even have room for a video card upgrade.

Good, however you succeeded in getting me to consider alternative. What do you think of this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341019 Corsair is apparently A great company judging by the research I have done. So which of those should I get. remember that I plan to upgrade CPU AND GPU as needed. And I would like a psu that can keep up with my upgrades.

Nice Tagan supplys u have linked in original post there, I personally have the 800W but I have a Quad core already and a lot of upgrades planned so the power will be handy and price difference between 700 & 800 was like a few pounds so I played safe, the OCZ would do just fine and is a good brand, Tagan have always been expensive but are an awesome company, I always use them and so do a lot of my friends and you always pay a lot for modular anyway, but unless you have cash to burn get the OCZ.

Tagans can also match Corsair's single volt rail (although corsair supplys aint actually made by corsair) Tagan have a switch on the back that combines all 6 12v rails into 1 high powered rail, same as what happens inside a Corsair supply but running single rail can lead to shorter life span hence why a lot of companys wont take it on.

^^I am aware of the Tagan switch. And I have tagans El-Diablo Case I love it! However I am short on money so I think I will settle on the OCZ psu. Whenever I can afford it though I go for Tagan, Great company!

The best value for the money is a PC Power & Cooling 750 QUAD . This is a review for it.
