Fallout. Heh, one of my hard drives is older than any of my games. 14 year old WD 2.5 gig. It's the only original component left in my computer when I started building my own machines that long ago. Surprisingly its outlasted every other harddrive I ever had. They just don't make computer components like they used to.kilaan
How old!?!?!? christ im surprised it hasnt died in a hail of grinding noises and burning smells!
...was it one of those 'bigfoot' series?? a friend of mine had one about 1997, something like 2.5gb I think.
...sorry back to topic, its farcry, bought at a supermarket about 18months ago for 3.99 (uk pounds).

Hint: google "wpoeit raptor."
New computer so it might just be Arcanum. However, I've ghosted my hard drive many, many times and haven't looked at some of the old files in ages. I could actually have Arkanoid on it for all I know.
Reunion - 1994 it's a Really good DOS game, my brother and me spent weeks playing it back in the day. It had Adventure, roleplaying, RTS, Space combat and Colony constuction...you name it. Discover new planets, name them and Send out probes to Discover aliens races..bothgood and evil. Invade there planets and defend yours in REAL Time on the ground wars. Choose your own Tech paths and advisors..
Also add to all that you had spies that told you what was going on in alien planets and they had there spies reporting on you.......
Not many games have that kind of scope :-)
All right, the clear winner is people with Infocom text adventures on their drives. I thought it was crazy, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that if I could find a copy of "Bureaucracy" and "Hitchiker's Guide," I'd probably still play them. Zork though or Wishbringer or something, I dunno.Srinivassa
You can play HitchHikers game online at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers/game.shtml and it's just as hard as I remember it...
It's a bit off Topic but I have a Floppy disk from 1993 which has lotus 3 on it, it was my first umm - wink wink nod nod -game that a friend gave me. Great racing car game, loads of cars, tracks and weather conditions. later I found it had great music...once I found a computer that had a sound card.
Ufo Enemy Unknown. I think it's got a different american name.
Either that or wolfenstein, whichever came first
Darn! good question.. (starting up Dosbox........)
hmm...
tough to say but I have Doom1/2, UW1/2, Magic Carpet, Ultima 4, Future Shock/Skynet + many other DOS oldies :) Oh, I think I found it.. Star Flight 1  !! Using an emulator to play it though. I preferred the Amiga version (colors etc). Gotta be the oldest on my HD. I remember playing that one on an IMB PC 4mhz 8086 monochrome! (replayed it last year too)
As for Windows playable games, I have Gothic 1/System Shock2/Morrowind/Thief1+2 D2 etc but HoMM3 (Heroes of Might and Magic III) is probably the oldest I have installed atm.

Yeah, I am totally doubling back on myself again. I found a site that hosts most of those old Infocom text adventures, and I started playing Hitchhiker's Guide. It wasn't terribly fun. I am going to have to reinstate my initial position that either people who say they have some of these games on their hard drive are lying (one was born in 1986 for Pete's sake), or they really really have nothing better to do because it was nigh unplayable.I think the oldest by release date I have is "Gun Fight" and that came out in 1975. If you wanna see it in action watch the '78 version of Dawn of the Dead and you will see them play it in the arcade at the mall. Backed up, I have a couple of older PDP games that make it on one of my computers from time to time.
