Ok, so AMD has just released it's new Radeon 7xxx series, and nVidia is posed to release the GeForce GTX 6xx series soon. With PC gaming making its great comeback, i think it's time to have a community discussion on graphics cards.

Heres my opinion:

nVidia has the better high end cards, especially the GTX 560 Ti, which is a sweet spot among graphics cards.

on the other hand though, AMD has a good mix of great high and lower end cards, like the 6770, which is honsestly a pretty good card.

What do you think? Vote in the pole and discuss!

I'm quite pleased with the fact that AMD is using the same mounting holes for all their high-end cards since the R500's (and perhaps even earlier). I can take a MCW60 configured to run on AMD/ATi cards and expect it to fit properly on anything between an X1950 to a 6970 without having to purchase a new mounting plate, or in the worst case, a new waterblock entirely. So my vote goes to AMD, though I've had card from both parties and they have all performed excellently.

I am an nVidia fan. I used to use a mix of ATI/AMD and nVidia but now I always go with nVidia because I trust the driver support more.

It probably will. I never understood how you could be a Nvidia or AMD fanboy. Both make great cards, it's just all about the price for performance. I loved my last Nvidia card to death, but when it came time to get a new one, I couldn't justify buying anything other than a 6870 due to it's great price and great performance.

I alternate between AMD/ATI and nVidia. I started this "generation" with an 8600 GT, got a new PC with an HD 5770 in 2009, did a midlife upgrade with a GTX 560 Ti last year. When I assemble a new PC a couple of years from now, it'll probably have an AMD video card.

I like both brands to be honest.

Never had Nvidia, so I will not comment on my favourite Both have their own benefits, but in the end it doesn't matter. one thing we can all agree on is that the 560ti and the 6870 are the two best bang for buck GPU's out there

Not really. I haven't had a single driver issue with my past 2 GPU's. An HD 4770 and my current HD 6850.

The driver thing might have been somewhat true in the past although nowadays their drivers are solid.

They do, it seems AMD are slightly behind when it comes to releasing optimization patches, but their overall drivers aren't too bad

6970 was the card I chose when I built my first PC this year, so I can't comment on Nvidia, but the 6970 has been nothing but awesome to me. Never had any problems with it. When it comes time to upgrade, I'll look at what both companies offer at that time and make a decision.

As usual the vote is close to 50/50 at this time. Also as usual 1/3rd are for each maker and the other third will take whatever is best for them. The open minded I look at both sides types. I'm not one of them. I like nVidia and always have. My computer builder likes anything but tends toward ATI. Basically isn't it a wonderful place to be where this kind of choice can be made by us not for us...

I prefer the cheapest one with the best peformance.

Which is usually AMD.

550 ti vs 6770/6790

560 vs 6850

560 ti vs 6950

AMD wins and is cheaper

Therefor I choose AMD

Whatever is the best single card I can get at the time, last time it was the 4870 and this time it was the 580, will probably be SLIing the 580 once I get the money and a new Intel CPU over my old AMD one. Then the next time I need new cards I will see which is better again for the single cards, Nvidia or AMD.

I don't really have a preference. I have alternated with my pcs. I did have a Geforce 8800GT, but now have a HD5870 in my desktop. I will probably get an Nvidia card next when i upgrade in about a years time.

Also I really don't understand what people are saying about bad ATI drivers, I haven't had any problems with them at all.

No preference, used both AMD and Nvidia cards over the years, depends what I like more at the moment. Now I own a 580GTX,great card, does a great job, will OC it soon when I replace the reference cooler with something better(AC Accelero Extreme)...

Also, two pages in,and still no fanboyish ramble.I hope it stays that way, those fighting over GPUs and stuff sound as lame as console fanboys fighting over their fav console...

Depends on benchmarks and whatever specials or deals they have going.

For example, I built my new PC in November. My videocard choice was between a Radeon 6970 and Geforce 570. Cheapest 6970 I could find was around $340 and came with Dirt 2. Cheapest 570 I could find was $300 and came with Batman Arkham City and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Since the benchmarks were roughly the same for both cards, I got the 570.

Well some games perform better on ATI but they don't spend as much money on that type of thing as nvidia.

Acctualy 5 years ago nVidia was kicking ATi's butt. Nowadays if you look at prices... AMD is cheaper in most cases.

Nvidia bought out 3dfx. So yea you are right.

A lot of the 3dfx technology went to nvidia, so it is understandable to see them as part of nvidia. Hell even SLI has the same name (it's a totally different way of doing multiple graphics cards though), and their headquarters were really close too.

I used to love Nivida Because I loved EVGA. Their support is still the best I have gotten on any product. When my 8800GTS 512 broke they even mailed me an 8800GTX. However, when it came time to upgrade, I just couldn't beat the 6870's price to performance ratio. I got an XFX card with a lifetime warranty. It's been kicking ass so far.
