Look at this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/PowerSearch.aspx?SubCategory=280&N=100007627&IsNodeId=1

Notice that there is no way to select which socket motherboard you want. How in the fork am I supposed to pick a motherboard when I can't filter by socket type? I've also noticed similar stupidification of their search pages recently in other sections. I'm not sure I'll be shopping at newegg anymore.

Maybe CBS bought them and redesigned their site.

When will website designers figure it out that simple IS better. But sh!t, don't mind it! Make it prettier, fancier, but broken and not intuitive.

Someone fucked up by removing that. You can still use the "search within" box as a filter. Just search for the socket number.

I like it how they left the "south bridge" option, but removed chipset and socket. fail.

This design choice absolutely blows my mind, like how the hell could this get approved? I really hope its some sort of glitch.

It's actually worse than this.

For CPU, you can't pick the type (i5, i7)

For RAM, you can't pick the amount (2x4GB, etc)

For HD, you can't pick the size (1 TB, 2TB)

For GPU, you can't pick NVIDA/AMD!

I notice the same thing while browsing for monitors and video cards. There is no filter for the size of monitors or the model of video card you want to buy for price comparison. You would have to know exactly what you are looking for to type it into the search bar above.

Its like they took away the most useful way to shop on their website.

What site is good though? Tigerdirect, directron, xpcgear and amazon are the only other sites I know off hand that have comparable selections. But their search was not as good as neweggs. I'm sure that we're not the only people to notice this, if a competitor moves in with a good way to search inventory as newegg used to, even if the selection isn't as good, I'd shop there for sure.

Personally, I go with tigerdirect because I don't have to pay taxes like I do with Newegg. But tigerdirect's selection isn't as great so sometimes you'd have "to settle" for something you didn't go in wanting to buy. For example, a specific brand or model. I swapped between Newegg and Tigerdirect but I do most of my shopping on Amazon.com these days.

Yeah the new search/sorting is awful, they need to get it straightened out.

I left them a nice polite note in their feedback form.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I used that url and can see where you can select the different CPU sockets. It's the fourth selection area from the type, right below "Manufacturers."

good thing if they fixed the search function else people would have to use pcpartpicker.com if they are from USA .ca if they are Canadian very detailed list of hardware but doesn't list everything

That's good. If they had intentionally changed things the way this thread describes, there would have been internet-wide mutiny.
