Hey guys...looking to reformat my PC soon but before I do that, I want to buy a new hard drive for my boot-up. I'm currently using an old 150GB Raptor X which I'm sick of because it's low in space and it is QUITE LOUD when processing/reading.

http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-WD1500AHFDRTL-Raptor-150GB/dp/B000FBS01K/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1255975930&sr=1-5

I'm honestly quite confused by what's fast and affordable these days. My price range is probably no more than $150. I also would like to keep it to a good brand such as Western Digital or maybe Seagate. Probably looking into something that has a 32MB cache and SATA 3Gb/S. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I feel like the 10,000 rpm HDD's are outdated or something these days because all the new ones I see are only 7,200 rpm.

p.s. - Western Digital Caviar Blacks any good?

10,000 rpm drives became obsolete as soon as SSDs took off, it seems, as they don't offer a massive performance increase over 7200rpm but are more expensive, smaller, and less reliable. I've got a Samsung F1 drive (750GB) as my main drive at the moment and I'm pretty happy with it. If I was buying another now, of course, I'd probably go with a WD Black. I've had good experiences with their Greens, although those are more storage drives.

Yeah I think it's safe to say that a solid state drive is out of the question. Too expensive and the ones that are afforable are very small in size. WD Black is sounding good so far.
