Here is my issue:

I turn on my laptop. I see the word:

Toshiba

Then, instantly, I get this:

Password:

I have no password and never set one. I have no idea what happened to this computer and to be honest, I am so fed up with it I no longer care. I want to put a fresh copy of Windows 7 on this machine.

To hell with my data.

I cannot access any sort of boot menu; the F keys to nothing. All I get is:

Password:

What do I do?

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Hold down the number 0 as soon as you turn the laptop on. That will prompt you to restore the laptop back to factory settings. I think that goes for all Toshiba laptops.

I just tried that and nothing. It simply attempts to put in a ton of Zeros into the password entry spot.

Unplug it, take the battery out, then wait for about 10 seconds. Put the battery back in and as soon as you turn it on continue to press 0 until you see it show "windows is loading files"

Do you have a fresh copy of windows 7? If so, just press f10, or f12, or whichever f key is that sets up your boot options. Change it to boot from cd, then place the windows 7 disc in and restart it. Keep in mind you'll need to have another pc so you can get the drivers you need and transfer them to your laptop via flash drive, cdrw, etc

I just tried that as well and it is still the same. Initial menu with nothing but the word: Toshiba on it, followed by a black screen asking for a password. No options for anything. And none of the F keys do anything. I never have the option to boot into anything. Thanks for your replies by the way.

No, it does absolutely nothing other than show me the front boot page (with no options for the F keys) and then an all black screen that simply asks for a password.

Believe me, it has crossed my mind. And Toshiba will not help me. It is out of warranty.

Looks like the BIOS BOOT Password.

Do a search for "Default Toshiba BIOS Password" and try what you find.

If not, search for "Reset BIOS Defaults" on that model.

probably going to have to unplug the cmos battery for about 5 minutes while unplugged from battery. That is if it doesn't store the bios password to the nand, but that's not too common. CMOS battery is probably underneadth the keyboard. google your laptop about that

Only thing you can do is to remove the CMOS battery and hope that the password will simply dissipate along with the rest of your BIOS settings. Shouldn't be too hard to find the battery my old laptops battery was accessible through the RAM slot but probably won't be in your case.
