I've mentioned it before, but I'm actually playing Black Ops online with an Xbox 360 controller and, not meaning to toot my own horn, I am doing quite well. Top 3 consistently without aim assist.. I personally feel way better gaming on the gamepad than keyboard and mouse. Everyone always says that a plus for PC gaming is the K/M combo, to which I say mmmmmkay... Thoughts?

I'm playing Killzone 2 at the moment and I hate the controls. I know it has massive controller lag and it's not the norm, but still...

Resistance was OK, I guess. But I'd never try MP using a controller.

Good for you chief. You must just not be very good with the keyboard and mouse ;) I've used both too, and you can't fine-tune your aiming with a controller the way you can with a mouse. Plus a keyboard has so many more buttons to assign functions to.

Try playing an MMO or a strategy game with a controller. Make sure you record it please. Use pinnacle game profiler or something and play some WoW or SC2 and video it.

Black Ops isn't a hard game to score high in. Most of the players are just trying to get experience, unlock Pro versions of their perks, etc. - so you're really only competing against a few players. You should try learning to use the keyboard and mouse, it's simply a more accurate control system. I know it's hard for you to accept because you think you're really good with the gamepad or something, but if you put in the time, you'd be better with the M/KB than you would be with the gamepad in a month or less. The reason why most people think the mouse and keyboard is better because most of us have gamed extensively using both the gamepad and M/KB setup, and have accepted the M/KB setup to be better for shooting games. You should try it yourself, and you'll see why this thread is so silly.

Although a disagree, I can fully understand what you're saying. I'm pretty good with one and think I could hold my own even on PC if I had one. Most people who say gamepad is horrible for FPS probably haven't spent enough time with it.

Nope...wrong in that sense. You might be good/better with a controller but nothing beats the INSTANT 360 degree spin of a mouse. This is for FPS of course, each genre is different.... a few examples: RTS: keyboard and mouse better Racing: most people say controller better etc etc...

Since you have a "Community" TV show GIF, I'll go easy on you. :P I love her, she's adorable. Great show! Anyways, KB/M is better for me. I shaved off nearly 14 seconds in "The Pit" in Modern Warfare 2. I could never pull it off on the 360 due to the controller. KB/M is just better in every way.. but that's all preference.

You can't spin fast enough, you can't check corners fast enough, and you can't do precise aim shots fast enough with a controller. You may not be terrible with a controller, but that doesn't change the fact that the mouse is a quick and precise aiming instrument and a controller is a handicap for shooters.

That...but I found that (specially in NFS games), you sometimes really have to turn hard one way and then the next, and you physically can't as fast on the wheel....cause the wheel doesn't turn fast enough to respond and by then you crashed into a wall...

honestly, this is a fact. this is impossible to do with a controller. and you just really wont be able to keep up with the rest of the people online because of this. but single player-wise, you're fine tc. doesnt matter. your opinion is yours. but you'll be at a disadvantage if you decide to hop into an online match.

Preference. Controller is preferable to you. Not for most others. The only to tell would be to play against to someone with kb/m. Chances are they will totally own you because its so much faster. If that makes the kb/m inferior, then so be it. chandu83

I once saw a video with Call of Duty players using KB/Mouse vs Controllers.... the controllers got totally owned...like BAD !!!

It wasn't this one, but you get the idea

no doubt you prefer controllers but I'm not sure how you can rationally look at some movies of professional players in quake 3 arena and possibly say "I can do that with a controller" You just can't get that precision.

Only thing I use my 360 controller on my pc for is Emulators, Racing Games or when I'm driving in GTA IV.

For FPS, I'd never use a controller.

Black ops uses the biggest noob engine in gaming history. It basically has auto aim because of how easy it is to shoot things with an analog stick. Not to mention the game has a bad hit detection. Its impossible to be bad at call of duty after the 1st game.

Ok. But you know it's pretty much a fact you get more control with a kb/mouse right? And anyways, pc still wins because you can use kb/mouse or controller.

How the hell.. could you possible be in the top 3 with a joystick aim on pc multiplayer.. most ppl would headshot with a mouse instantly =/SPBoss

Its called exaggeration.

People do it a lot, in all things.

I used to play with SOLELY the keyboard during Quake 1 (i was such a noob) and I got so good at it, that there are times when I managed to place 1-3 position. But these were rare. But I can place myself in top 5-8 pretty ok.

And I should add, it usually in a FFA or team FFA matches or CTF.Its really easy to get kills, especially when you know the maps really well.

But against really skilled kb/m players, particularly in 1-1 duels or team deatmatches, I got literally torn apart into atomised pieces until I wise up and started using the mouse.

There is also a factor of who are you playing against, what kinda server? A public server where every tom dick and harry regardless of skill levels can play? Or a serious highly competitive clan server?

Besides COD 4 is a game where you can literally spray and get easy kills. Or you know the map enough where to throw a frag nade and get 1-3 kills easily.

I can claim that I consistently place number 1 in all matches I've played and for all you know, I'm noobtubing 24/7 with happy perks like martyrdom. For the record, I've used them quite liberally lol, just to enjoy the tears of internet rage of deathly threats of wrath.

Accuracy is not really that important unless you impose personal "house rules"like "i'm only using a sniper and I only want HEADSHOTS!"

I play with both as I have a PC and a 360 and Keyboard/Mouse is the superior way to play for accuracy. I'm not an elitist, I play for enjoyment, but sheer pinpoint accuracy is only possible with the K/M and not a gamepad OR motion controls. Gawd, I hate going to the Wii boards and these guys with their underpowered machine keep yakking about how much better their controls are to K/M when they haven't played anything else. But that's a rant for another time.

In terms of accuracy in shooters, it's the keyboard and mouse. In terms of controls for RPGs it's the keyboard as everything is laid out for you and not tucked away in a menu. In terms of strategy games it's the only way to play (except Halo Wars works really well on a controller, but on PC it would be considered way too basic). Granted, action games, racing games, JRPGs, fighting games, etc are all better with a gamepad. I enjoy playing shooters and RPGs on both my 360 and PC, and the controls always work fine for a good game regardless of set-up, but there's no denying the superiority of Keyboard and Mouse for certain types of games.

1. I like the challenge of using a controller. Sure the mouse is more precise, but using a joystick is a whole different skill set. There is a sense of accomplishment when you are better than everyone else.

2. I don't like carpal tunnel. After years of KB/M my left hand is like a claw.

3. Most importantly I like chillin on my sofa with my feet kicked back playing on my flatscreen with surround sound--not something that is easily accomplished with a KB/M.

I like both, but both have their advantages.

To say it is more accurate or precise (controller) is indeed factually wrong ;). But if you like it better, than have at it.

Yeah, no offense to any COD players out there, but in MW2 and BO very few of them are any good. While the 360 controller may be doing well for you, you will still not have a chance against anyone who is actually decent at playing with m&k.

*pours more fuel on this topic*

you may prefer controller over M/KB, but the fact remains that mouse is far more precise and faster to aim with. it's not an opinion, it's a fact.

Human thumbs on analog sticks aren't as good at aiming as a human hand on a mouse. That's just how it is. You prefer controller, fine, but you will never be as fast and accurate as a mouse user. So saying a controller isn't inferior to m+kb is 100% false, sorry.

Try browsing the net with a controller, then try it with a mouse. What's faster? It's the same for games.
