Is this the beginning of the end for team green? Intel with access to Radeon on their own bleeding edge fabs could be the death knell for nVidia too.

Apparently, some people have it out for me because I don't have a clear AMD bias like they do.

Maybe not. Between the success of ARM and the decline in PC sales Intel would have a relatively compelling argument that there's enough competition in the market and buying AMD wouldn't change anything, particularly with AMD already being largely irrelevant on the CPU side and arguably in a death spiral towards bankruptcy anyway.

That said, this seems like a pretty dumb rumour. The only reason for Intel to buy AMD is to get the GPU side of the business, and with Intel finally starting to deliver on their own GPU development there probably isn't all that much value in buying AMD.

According to you anyone that doesn't hate AMD is a biased fanboy... Nobody here is going to claim that a phenom beats an i5, but AMD are far from irrelevant.

I highly doubt Intel would be able to get away with it. The government was going to block AT&T buying T-mobile, and the mobile phone market has much more competition than the CPU market.

Terrible if this would ever happen. Monopolies are not good for consumers, because intel has complete control over a market. This could even be bad for Intel, because, at least in America, the government usually gets inlvolved to try to prevent monopolies.

as to be Totally False Cause how could it be legal to have a CPU monopoly on Desktop & Laptop Device ? I Suposse they Could have the Legitimate Right to buy the AMD GPU division For Graphic Developement Purpose since Intel is Clearly Still far Behind But  AMD AS A Whole that Sound Terrible It Make it Sound Like as if it where  It like ALL Like Apple / Microsoft/  Google / AMD / would be into IBM palm as if IBM wasn't enough powerful as it is :P

awesome, id love that!!, go intel buy out AMD!!!  Unfortunately though, the prices of cpu's will probably rise.  On the otherhand, the gpu market will be much more healthy, since intel has the resources, they can produce excellent hardware and software, and they aren't afraid to play dirty like nvidia, ie proprietary software.  PhsicsX anyone?

the only one whod be screwed over by this sale is nvidia.  Im betting nvidia would fight this possible aquisition to the death.  But, nvidia are betting on ARM to succeed, so in a way they're already competing with intel.  Its more than fair if Intel competes directly with nvidia through the purchase of ATI from AMD.  Not to mention Intel will have access to all of AMD's IP, all their R&D and their best engineers.  Intel has connections with all the game developers, therefore the drivers for AMD cards will be perfection.

While this would be pretty bad for consumers I imagine AMD wouldn't exactly hate the idea.

I bet the real reason Intel would want AMD is intel still can't make a real graphics chip which it badly need to take on ARM makers. Qualcomm should go and buy AMD then intel would be in some big trouble if the mobile trend continues. There is no way intel would be let to buy it's main competitor and AMD is doing just fine in the gpu department along with the lower end.

Any company that buys AMD would be buying Billions of Dollars of Paperweight.

This is not a knock on AMD, but surely it's been discussed to death around the internet to be common knowledge that AMD's X86 license is non-transferrable. AMD's product line would be nothing but paperweight, and The Next Gen consoles would be hit immensly hard.

If you know anything about the HHI, you will see why even just the idea of intel being allowed to buy AMD is 100% absurd.

it is already a monopoly...Intel has around 80% of the market without even trying to compete.  If AMD were competitive, we would have octa core cpu's selling for $200 with hyper threading from intel, and their past generation cpus selling for $100.  AMD is struggling and shedding jobs like crazy, an intel offer would probably be looked on favorably by a judge

That's what I was wondering. They probably wouldnt be allowed to purchase them even if they wanted to, seeing as how they're intel's only "real" competitor in certain areas.

Deragotary remarks about my character from petulant posters who cry any time AMD is called out = gold.
