...and I don't want to use Windows Media Center, what's a good media player to use? I'm looking for one that'll house my library (preferrably just for movies). I'd use iTunes if I didn't have to convert every video file I have! Any suggestions?

agreed vlc is win :D
Media player classic is better than VLC as far as I'm concerned... downside is only Windows.JigglyWiggly_
Yep.. MPC-HC is the best video player for Windows.
I like using MPlayer in Linux, which is also excellent. Not a big VLC fan.
MPC-HC x64 is the best. It has an edge over VLC - support for x64. Both will accelerate H264 with new cards and drivers.

This I used vlc for years and it did a fine job but then needed more once i started watching hd videos and once i moved onto media player classis i never looked back just an allround better media player with much more functionaltility and video support.
CCCP with media player classic home cinmea will play pretty much any video file out there.

If you watch those HD videos with GPU acceleration the CCCP will interfere with it. MPC-HC needs to rely on its own internal codec for it and an external filter.

Err..that's incorrect. I use the CCCP (beta) for simplicity's sake (easy all-in-one package to stay up-to-date), and I am using GPU acceleration just fine. Sure you need to configure it yourself, but you have to do that even if you only install the standalone player. There is nothing about the CCCP that interferes with it.
All you have to do is:
1) Disable ffmpeg H264/AVC decoding (only extra step is that you will also want to disable it in ffdshow.)
2) Switch to one of the EVR renderers.
3) Enable DXVA H264/AVC decoding.
Not real complicated..
