Allthough I have not finished this game, im a fair way through it and allthough there some positive things, such as reasonably fun combat, great open enviroments and amazing visuals, i just find the game far too repetitive and just generally irratating. It just seems like you have to do the same old same old stuff over over again. It just seems like you have to do the same old same old again. That wasnt a typo, i was just repeating my sentence over again, annoying isnt it. That is just what playing Assassins creed is like.

What really annoyed me were the informer quests, they are pretty much exactly the same, either kill a bunch of people in a stupid amount of time, or find a load of flags in an equally stupid amount of time. The game is just irratating. It could just be due to a lack of interest or attention span, but im finding the story far too difficult to follow.

Im wondering does anyone else agree with me or am I just too harsh?

If it was me reviewing this game, I would have given it 6.5 at the most.

I thought it was dreadful. The combat is lame, and although the towns looked alright, there was really no incentive to explore, because all you ever did was jump off into a 6 inch deep pile of hay and magically survive. Add in the what, 3, different mission types total, and you have a 3.0 game. I don't get the 9.0 either, but I always take GS's reviews with a grain of salt after the whole kane and lynch ordeal.

Reviewers, and especially Gamespot reviewers, tend to favor mainstream, console games. Bioshock, Halo 3, and AC all scored very highly. Meanwhile, Men of War, Demigod, and other PC exclusive titles did not.

I think i agree there actually. Bioshocks another game which i didnt think it was as good as the hype it got. Allthough i think its a good game, its not a classic imo.

I liked Bioshock too, but it was waaaaay overrated by the media. System Shock 2 is arguably a better game.

I agree with their score. I find Assassin's Creed to be a very innovative action adventure much like a historical Grand Theft Auto. The story is very intriguing. Altiar and Desmond are both interesting and mysterious characters. The assassinations are fun, planning your moves on the spot can be chaotic, and gathering information about your targetcan get repetitive. Their reveiw was fair, although that is just my opinion.

Teh Money and Teh Bias! :P

Its just one persons opinion, in all honest i dont read or trust any reviews anymore, as it seems like i dissagree with about 90% of reviews these days.

Alot of my favorite games are 6.5-7.5 on gaemspot it seems, reviews i just stay far away now, unless i want a laugh :P

Assassins Creed was a bad game imo, doesnt deserve more then a 6/10 imo. Nice graphics and thats it, the game has nothing else (yes i bought the game and finished it). I could name 1000 games that ive enjoyed more then AC over the years.

yup, i enjoyed myself the first 3 hours and thats it. Never been so bored with a game i swear. Its like the next 15hours i spent on the game where a huge chore or something, just wasnt fun at all to me. Plus i didnt like the story or repetative gameplay either.

lol... I would of done the same, until I actually put some hours into the game to understand Assassins Creed is rubbish. It's unbelievable really that this game earned a arsenal of awards and great reviews amongst gaming journalism. Average game for a average gamer..

I tend to stay away from games like Assassins Creed, but unfortunately I thought it will be something worth experiencing. Certainly it looks fantastic, on the other hand the gameplay is dreadful in such a short amount of time.

I did NOT find the gameplay in AC to be outstanding. Running on top of rooftops all day was the part I liked the most, which made up for the terrible combat system.

The buildup in the story (except for the very end because I haven't played it that far) was better than most games, and I'll give credit to that. The story was bad, but the directing made up for it.

I thought that the gameplay was fun. Combat was exciting, platforming was great, and the stealth action was amazing.

Chris_53

you're not being harsh at all. seriously the most repetitive game I've ever played.... travel to city, find the bureau. pickpocket, eavesdrop, and interrogate. assassinate. repeat.

it was a great idea, very badly delivered thanks to its infuriatingly repetitive gameplay. there's no way it deserves a 9.0. I wouldn't even give it a 6.0.

Don't worry, I agree with you. The concept was pretty good, but the way it was presented was awful. It had the most repetetive sidequests ever. Like finding flags in like, 30 seconds, or killing archers on rooftops that could spot you the instant you peeked your nose out at them, or waiting for some idiot to get done with his speech and follow him in a dark alley and beating him, over, and over again. HIGHLY repetetive. Combat was lame, you right click and wait for the moment for counter attack. And it was easy too. The enemies take about 1 second to raise their sword up and 3 seconds to bring it down.

Some of you guys can't use your imagination, can you? Try taking on a large group of soldiers with just your wrist blade, pushing people like dominoes down some stair, etc

Also, the missions were repetitive, but most games are like that. I played assassins creed on PS3, maybe it is a game more suited to console than PC

was gobsmacked that in a game where you play as an acrobatic assassin given the freedom of a huge medieval world and the ability to climb every building (with a control scheme that works surprisingly well) that the best ubisoft could come up with for things to do was eavesdrop a conversation, pick pocket someone and talk to informers. almost criminal to waste such a good idea with such mundane tasks. even more criminal to have you repeat the same tedious tasks over and over again throughout the game

Phoenix534
My hatred stems from the fact that I was really looking forward to it for a long time. When it came out I saw it got mediocre reviews from better reviewers than Gamespot (7 range), so I decided I didn't want it anymore--didn't want to have the let-down rubbed in my face by playing the game. So I asked for Drakes Uncharted for Christmas instead. But what do ya know--I was given Assassin's Creed. I ended up opening it out of politeness and the urgings of others. I gave it a chance, and I was disappointed, as expected. It was an absolute mess. The idiotic narrative, the amateurish dialogue, the repetitive gameplay... ugh, it was all such a waste. I dropped it after a few hours and haven't touched it since.

I was not only very excited before the game came out, this game actually enticed me to buy a better computer the day it hit the shelves. I walked out of Best Buy with a sweet PC and ASSassins Creed. I played the game for several hours that day and maybe a few hours more before dropping it entirely. At first I was awed by the graphics, but then realized everything looked the same and was so washed out. It just didn't hold my interest. I'd say a 6.5 score is being generous. This game has no heart.

I didnt get past the 3rd assassination mission. Boring repeatative brain numbing minigames is all the gameplay amounted up to. Something I would expect to see a 12 year old write in flash. PC gamer gave it a fairer review iirc, something like 80%, most of it was about the graphics.

Assasins creed and far cry 2 were the most overrated games of 2008. Both repatitive and after 1-2 hours they get boring. Not saying are bad games but they didn't worth anything more than 6,5-7. BTW both games are by ubisoft

I got this on 360 when it ame out.

At first, it was quite enjoyable.... then it got repetitive... then it became a task to play it... then it became just annoying and tiring to play.

And the story was too hard to follow, and not very interesting either.

What's sad is the amount of AC fanboys out there that stand up for this game. And the hype for AC 2 is pure comedy.

It's a good game for a few hours. Until you get your defensive stance, and can kill anything that swings at you. Hopefully the second will be better.

i really did enjoy it alot when i was playing it but when i look back on it it is very repetative and a 9.0 was quite generous... but i think 6.5 is abit harsh maybe 8.0 would be fair because it is a solid game the ending alone deserved a 9.0! coz it was that freeking good but otherwise and 8.0 would be fair

People who buy games merely for the sake of finishing it and claiming they're the win.

If you spent time understanding the story and getting into the atmosphere the game builds it never feels repetitive. Also you guys don't notice that every mission gives you new information so that helps overcome the sense of repetitivness.

it does drag in the middle, but the ending is awesome. also, the combat gets better and better. keep playing
