I'm not the most creative person when it comes to CiV, I typically just do large map with the reccomended players and city states.... find the first 2 difficulties easy but prince is where it starts to get hard for me.

Every match feels the same. I dunno i remember playing civ 3 or civ 4 and the enemies had alot more political choices and made more attempts to trade/alliance/war with me .... in meaningful ways I felt.

game seems completely flat.

How do you guys make this game fun? it seems more about lucky resource locations and random luck with A.I encounters more than anything.

and that godamn slow turn speed on large maps.... I'm running it off an SSD and have 4.5.ghz 1.5 and even before modern age its 20+ seconds a turn ... ridiculously poor.

I've heard running it in dx9 instead makes it much faster, but that literally crashes everytime.

rant over. how do  you make this game fun ( and yes, I like these games normally.)

Try playing different civilizations every game. And pursue a victory goal said civ seems to specialize at.

For instance, if you play as Brazil, try going for a cultural victory.

Do you have Brave New World? Also, try turning movement animations off. You'll notice the AI's turn goes much faster.

I think it is definitely not the game for everyone. I'm a math nerd, so I find optimization to be a lot of fun. I try to play on high difficulties going for fewest turns or highest score (per victory type). The game to me is about trying endless combinations to maybe best my top games. I pretty much do this in every game that allows it (mostly RPG and strategy), and Civ 5 is one of the better ones for this with the two expansions installed.

Even if you don't want to get that deep into it, you could try playing as different civs. They all have a unique ability that sometimes changes up the game a lot, Venice probably making the biggest change. Also, trying different maps can result in different games. Try different difficulties too. If you have trouble on Prince, try to find how the computer is beating you and try another strategy, or even look up strategies online.
