Hell Ya Moments In Gaming

Let's play a game.

We'll call it "Hell Ya Moments In Gaming". The rules are as follows: you can only post one hell-ya moment at a time (in other words, once you've posted your hell-ya moment you have to wait for somebody else to post before you can post again). Got it? Also, no repeat hell-ya moments. If you post a hell-ya moment that's already been posted then you'll be disqualified by me.

We'll see how many hell-ya moments we can come up with.

I'll go first.

Stepping out of the sewer in Oblivion for the very first time.

We'd all been drooling over the screenshots, and we'd read about this huge open-world, but stepping out into the sun for the first time, and seeing the river, and that big hill rising behind the river, was a true hell-ya moment in gaming.

Here's an oldy, but a goody - most of you aren't going to have a clue as to what I'm talking about here, but: I got the babel fish!

A definite hell-ya moment from the 1980's, for a text adventure game from Infocom's 'The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy'. It took me almost a week to figure that one out.

Beginning of Mass Effect.

Some mysterious talking between some unknown people about your character (differs depending on the history you chose when creating the character)....

Some text giving brief background.. Music starts playing... BAM!

The logo flashes on to the screen.

Amazing music keeps playing, and your character is slowly revealed, just in time for the ship he/she is on to use a relay.

Really gets you pumped up for the game.

I'm referring to the first 2 minutes of this, best quality I could find on youtube. Great, now I feel like playing the game yet again. Must resist urge!

If I must be specific, HL, Chapter 12: Surface Tension... one of the most masterfully paced levels in the history of FPS gaming.

Ripping the jaw off of the end boss in Condemned: Criminal Origins.

The beginning of the original Half-life was a hell-ya moment - you were on this tram, and as the credits rolled you were able to move about in the tram, and were looking about and seeing many of the locations which you would venture to later on when things went to hell.

Seeing the first gigantic colossus in SotC...then scaling it foot by foot, stabbing it to death, and then watching it topple slowly to the ground. Epic.

I just had one last night.

Checking out patch 3.2 on WoW and seeing the huge speed buff on the 60% flying mounts.

Owning my friends on Counter-Strike 1.6 when we have LAN, though its allways a Hell-Ye moment when I kill one of my friends (in tha game, lawl) :P

Pretty new but it's the first thing I thought of. I started playing through Wolverine Project Origin based on a friends reccomendation and I wasn't expecting much because, well, it's based on a movie. On the first level, leaping onto a helicopter, tearing the pilot out of the cockpit and decapitating him on the blades of the hellicopter. "Oh @#$% Yeah!"

Beating the crap out of the Alien Warship in Crysis.

It was a real shame the game ended there.

How about stepping outside of the train station in Half-Life 2 and seeing that city square - that dark scene, I thought, was very reminiscent of something out of George Orwell's 1984. I also thought that some Crysis fanatics might've said that when you crest that hill, very early on in the game, and see the water, and the entire bay, spread out in front of you, as the sun is coming up, was certainly a hell-ya moment, because it was the first instance, really, that you were seeing the Crysis engine in all its glory. Oh damn, I just mentioned two hell-ya moments in one post. I'm disqualified.

It would have to be killing three players while parachuting from a plane in Battlefield 1942. They didn't even see it coming! :twisted:

People, if you're going to post end-game spoilers, use f***ing spoiler tags or disguise the texts! I'm reallt thankful to whoever posted the end to Condemned, which is incidentally the game I'm now playing.

Anyways - my first hell ye moment would be downing the first gunship in Half-Life 2.

hl2 - killing the antlion queen, getting the pheropod and finding the horde of antlions that had been trying to rip you to shreds for much of the game are suddenly now at your service and ready to die for you. sweeping into nova prospekt with an army of antlions was definitely a hell yeah moment "fly my pretties..." *evil laugh!

Half-Life - killing the first gargantua

The end credits for Portal.

Launching an artillery strike on ArmA 2, and go "Here comes the pain" on voice.

with dozens of police cruisers hot on my tail, i bust into the Los Santos Airport, board a plane, floored it and off i went, while Ice Cube obviously was feeling as high i was, singing Today was a Good Day. my name is Carl "CJ" Johnson, and this is my hell yea moment. :D

Supreme Commander

Was playing LAN with a friend of mine, Throughout the entire game I was building this huge force of units.

When I finally decide to storm his base, I see he is building an experimental (or w/e their called) unit, so I start rushing it because its almost done, next thing I know it takes off and kills everything.

I mean, sure he beat me, but it was epic. So definetly a Hell Yeah moment for both of us lol.
