I have:

Intel Core i7 920 2.67Ghz
6GB RAM
GeForce 9500 GT

How well will I be able to run Battlefield Bad Company 2? I'm worried about the graphics card. From the Can You Run It website I meet the minimum requirements but not the recommended.

What settings do you think I will be able to run it on and will it be good?

What upgrades if necessary do you recommend?

Probably all low settings with that video card. For a system that well, you really need to upgrade that video card. I would say a GTS 250, ATI 5770, GTX 260-275, ATI 5830, GTX 470, ATI 5850. ATI 5870, GTX 480, or ATI 5970 with the later ones mention taking the for forefront for a system like that.

Ok so I'm thinking of upgrading the graphics card. Which one will last me a good few years?

Also to get HD, what matters. just the graphics card and the monitor?

Well what is your current monitor. If you are happy with it stick with it. If you have an LCD monitor anything from 2006-2007 and onwards and is at least 19inch i guess your good. For graphics card depends how much you wanna spend. A great budget card that will last you about 2 years is the ATi 5770 for about $150 or if you are willing to give near $300 you cant go wrong with an ATI 5850 and surely that card will last you 2-3 years playing games at all high settings

Geforce 9500 is a nice gfx card. I'm pretty sure you can run BF:BC 2 at near high settings. Not essentially maxed. I have a ATI Radeon 4650, and it runs BC2 at near max settings.

I'm thinking of upgrading in July. Even if I don't upgrade, how long do you think this card will last me until I really really need to upgrade? About the HD thing, I mean do you not need a monitor with a HDMI port of something?

DVI and VGA both do higher than 1080p.

i had a 9500gt up until start of this year. was a great card for runing HAWX at full settings......but any unreal engine 3 game would run bearable but with no sexy motion blur. go grab a 4850 or above and u'll not look back! just make sure that a fulll size card will fit in ur case (a slim card like a 9500gt might mean u havea slim tower? otherwise there shoulda beena gts 240 in there)

So, I might need to upgrade graphics card, PSU and case? What dimensions would be a reasonable size for a case? (So I can check )

I just see it as the same as when DX10 came out. Not may games used it, and there was a massive performance drop from using it with those first generation DX10 cards. So I opted to wait for more games to use it, and better hardware to run it with.

Woah go back a step or two. It's obvious that you will have to upgrade your video card but also tell us how much wattage your power supply has and what case you have as well cause you might not have to upgrade those components at all depending on what they are. :)

well the 4890 has no dx 11 so dont buy it if you want dx 11. its a very good card but some will say its old tech. the 5770 is not most powerfull. but again a decent card. it depends on the res you play

alright well that is one of my favorite cases ;) however it isn't going to fit the larger video cards so might not want to go with a card that's longer than 9.5 inches which the 5770 isn't. Also, can you give us the specs of the power supply? it's kinda borderline of needing an upgrade.

Specs of power supply? Can I find this out without opening my PC?

So the 5770 will last at least 2 years on max settings and will fit in my case.
I think its about £130 so that may be ok.

But on the AMD website it says: 450 Watt or greater power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connectors recommended (600 Watt and two 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX technology in dual mode). So won't I need a new power supply no matter what, if that is the card I get?

Is not guranteed to last you 2 years at max settings but judging by the way thinks going the last 3-4 years it will last you if not max settings with only few compromises for the next 1,5-2 years Also yes you will most likely need a new power supply. Although that depends on the current power supply you have, If its a good brand with an 80plus rating usually it will be ok even if its only 400W. Good brands are among others Corsair, coolermaster , Antec ,pc power and cooling, Ocz and others.

yeah you can't find out the specs of the PSU without opening the case sadly. Basically there is a sticker on the outside of the PSU that tells you the specs of it and well you can't see it unless you open up the case unless however the case has a side panel window, then you might be able to read it from the outside of the case. So anyway it would be a good idea to upgrade your power supply. I'd recommend getting this power supply from overclockers UK

Thanks a lot, been so much help. One more question. I searched the 5770 and there were like different types. Whats the difference. The only things I noticed are 512MB and 1GB and difference in DDR. So how much do these and other factors make a difference?

Well the difference at most is like 5-6%. Depends if a company overclocks their 5770's In any case i suggest getting the cheapest there isnt a substantial difference between various 5770's and the only think you might wanna look for is how loud is the Gpu cooler ( if you are annoyed by loud fan spinning you might wanna give an extra $10-20 for a model with a better cooler design although most 5770's are reasonable quiet ) Also it will be better if you can get a 1gb version. Performance wise both 512mb and 1gb will be the same in almost all games with maybe 2-3 exceptions but getting the 1gb version you will be more future proof in case more games that take advantage of more than 512mb of video memory do appear
