Which i7? if its the 1st gen i7 (ie 920 etc) you can hold off, but if its 2nd gen its a bit tougher choice but if its the 3rd gen or newer jump on it.
4790K is MUCH more powerful and when gaming it would never hold you back. But if you're just gonna use it for gaming then you might want to get 4690K.
its the one that sells for 350 us dollars and yea ill be gamming on it the only reason I am doing it is because its a deal I get though work and I just wanted to get some confirmation on if I should upgrade to it or not

Just get i5 4690K, unless you're into editing don't buy an i7.

Thats so dumb to suggest..... spend 200 on used i7 and motherboard or spend over 300 for a new slower cpu and motherboard

Yeah...this isn't even a serious question. The 4790k will CRUSH any AMD cpu in gaming performance...and pretty much all other performance areas as well.

Usedi7, as if it may die very soon, as long as you don't know the owner.
Plus I would be definitely suspicious over getting an i7 4790K that is sold for over 350$ for a 100$, reason? it's brand new CPU that was launched this very year on the 2nd quarter - I can bet that this CPU has been OC so much that has been damaged some way.

highly doubtful, its less then year old, as long as they used the stock cooler at stock speeds and it didnt go above 75C for long periods, even if was overclocked, that cpu will last for the next 5 years easily.
Now if your getting the cpu from someone you know it changes the whole perception.

Again a brand new i7 being sold for less than 2/3 of if it's price is not something normal, even for a used one, especially since not even half year of use have passed.
That's what I think anyway, and I agree if you're getting it from a friend that you know that doesn't extreme OC or anything alike and you know for sure the reason that it's being sold so low - that's fine safe buy.
Just to drop a little info its a new i7 its a deal I get through work
Ok, that's a whole other story, yes of course - not that is needed for gaming but even the cheapest i5 is sold for 200$+.
Now you'll need a good Z87 or Z97 MOBO if you want to OC it, don't forget to look into SLI/Crossfire if you plan on doing so in the future.
