STALKER series, Crysis series, Battlefield 2/2142 if you like MMOFPS games. HALF LIFE series is a must play also. Oblivion. I'm sure I'll think of more as soon as I click post...
thanks, do those games have good multiplayer? Also which would be the better game to get between diablo II and NWN 2, or is there a better game in that genre?Deadly_SpectreThe Orange Box and Unreal Tournament 3 have great multiplayer, the other FPS games listed have Multiplayer too, but it's not as good. And Diablo 2 is better than NWN2 gameplay-wise, but NWN2 looks substantially better.
FPS = Team Fortress2, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Deus Ex, Counterstrike Source and Left4Dead
RPG = Divine Divinity, Diablo2, Neverwinter Nights 2, The Witcher and Any of the Wizardry series

Fps-Crysis and crysis warhead, Stalker and stalker clear sky,Cryostasis, battlefield 2, Americas army 3 ( at least try it since its free)
Rpg-Fallout 3 ( its got a great modding community),mass effect, diablo 2,oblivion( again it worth it due to the great mod community)
Rts- if you are new to RTS games Red alert 3 is the best game to begin with ( it also offers the best tutorial for new rts players)

perhaps make ur own post about it
If you don't mind the dated graphics then the good old rpgs from the 90's are a must play.
RPG: Planescape Torment, Diablo 1&2, Fallout 1&2, Deus Ex, KOTOR 1 and 2 (if you haven't gotten it on your console)
FPS: Doom, Quake, Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Wolfenstein, System Shock
RTS: Warcraft 1&2 (they can provide back story if you play Warcraft 3), Starcraft, C&C
Modern:
FPS: STALKER, Crysis+Warhead, NecroVison, Cryostasis
RTS: Red Alert 3 (if you can stand the DRM), Tiberium Wars, Empire: Total War, DoW and DoW 2, King's Bounty: The Legend
RPG: Drakensang, The Witcher (although if you have a console just wait for the port its graphics and gameplay are significantly improved although the atmosphere if ruined because of the Fable 2 look) not much PC exclusive rpgs so you might as well get the best versions of rpgs you don't have on your console (if you have one)
Let me put in another recommendation for Company of Heroes. I know for a fact that I pretty much bought this PC of mine to play COH with a friend. I love WW2, and coupled with it being a fairly good RTS (yeah, when everyone was playing Counter Strike back in the day, I stuck with the Starcraft crowd) that was a huge selling point for me. With settings turned all the way up, it looks fantastic for a game out a few years back.
In the FPS area, if you haven't already, Counter Strike: Source is probably a good place to start. Afterwards, try Team Fortress 2. Further recommendation for ya :P. Valve games are incredibly addicting. If you see a game that has the Valve logo on it, it usually means quality gaming experience.
Afterwards, try your hand with a bit of Bioware. Knights of the Old Republic (Star Wars, so if that isn't really your think, I still recommend a play through) and Mass Effect.
FPS;Doom II, Heretic, Hexen, Orange Box (best value you can get), CSS (if you like realism; I personally hate it), Deus Ex (its an rpg/fps hybrid!), Halo:Combat Evolved (still the best of the 3 and you get mods), Duke Nukem 3D, and Half-Life
ARPG:Witcher, Diablo II, Baldurs Gate II (can be considered an ARPG), Neverwinter Nights (has a good online community) and Titan Quest.
RTS:Starcraft, Company of Heroes and Medieval II Total War (new one is broke but is getting fixed).
