Hey all.

Just wanted to know if there were any fans of Dos games on here? I have a youtube channel that features several (I aint posting the channel name - not spamming you all lol).

I like the old dos games, some of them have alot more depth than todays games. Disagree? Your opinion.

Any fans of :

System Shock

Duke Nukem 3D

Shadow Warrior

Blood

Redneck Rampage

Carmageddon

I can't list all my favourites, but the above ones are brilliant games.

Hope there are some Dos game enthusiasts on here

Thanks for your time :)

Why would you play DN3D trough Dos Box?

Download the FULL RELEASE of Duke Nukem 3D: High Resolution Pack (Dec 24, 2011)

All the files are in place and ready to go, you just have to extract them and it'll extract itself in a folder. There's even a demo version of Duke Nukem 3D in that zipfile containing the first episode. The game looks like this:

Having so many old games available from GOG.com reinvigorated my passion for 'golden oldies'. I lost track of many of my original floppy disks a long time ago (or they became corrupted and useless). Anyway, some of my all-time favourite DOS era games include:

- Eye Of The Beholder series - especially EOB2, which hit the sweet-spot for story, interface and dungeon crawling.
- Ultima Underworld 1 & 2 - such great game engines for the time, and such great games.
- Lands Of Lore: Throne Of Chaos - what Eye Of The Beholder 3 should have been. Westwood excelled themselves when they pulled this out of the hat.
- Betrayal At Krondor - the 3D environments look very dated now, but it's still worthwhile for the story and the turn-based combat.
- Doom **
- Heretic **
- Hexen & Deathkings Of The Dark Citadel ** - one of my all-time favourite FPS games.
- Star Wars: Dark Forces - many fond memories of this game
- Quake (still have the original CD) - the Tenebrae mod breathed some new life into that game as well

** I play these through the Doomsday engine mod for the updated graphics/audio capabilities.

Dude, I somehow forgot all about System Shock. I'm gonna have to get that for my dosbox. I've been playing Zone 66, Raptor, Duke Nukem (1,2 and 3D), Got of Thunder, The Simpsons Arcade Game, Doom 1 and 2... oh man. Good times.

I am a fan.

Blood

Shadow Warrior

Duke 3D.

Doom.

Honestly, I like the look of that duke 3d refresh... Gonna have to try it out, do I have to have Duke 3d installed in order to use it?

I tried a high rez texture package well over a year ago, but it had serious sound issues, maybe this one is improved on that end...

I beat D3d again for the hell of it, about 2 years ago. But I wouldn't mind doing it again. I really love the campgaign of those games back then.

I've dabbled in DosBox in the past to re-visit some of the games I used to play back when I had Windows 95. Never got very far through the games though. This has convinced me to download Arena and Daggerfall and try them now. :)

Ok I got Arena working but died in the starting dungeon. :(

So far, the only game I'm interested in using DOSBox with is Crusader: No Remorse. Most of the DOS games I still play are the Lucasarts adventure game. For those, I use ScummVM.

Ultima Underworld is wonderful when I played it in DosBox several years ago. Also I recommend "I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream" and the old Space Quest games if you like point and click adventures. And did you hear they are remaking Karateka?.

The original (and the best) Syndicate with a little Cannon Fodder on the side, oh and Raptor: Call of Shadows. I've got a few others, but I'm a dabbler more than anything else.

Ever played Blackstar - Agent of Justice? That's a great point & click. That game really reminds me of gaming on Windows 95 more than any other game for some reason.

Umm, I'm going to be playing Doom and Doom 2 in the upcoming weeks and seriously getting into the multiplayer, do those run on DOS Box? I realize that I need a client like Odamex to run multiplayer, though.

I grew up with Dos (Im born 1984), so hell yeah! =) I still play old games to this very day. People some times ask me why? cus theres new games out there on the market. I just say "Becouse I like really good games, which offers good gameplay value". I mean, I played X-com 1 last night (I haven´t done that for years), and It really made me happy :)

Can´t wait to see Firaxis remake of X-com 1 though, cus It looks awsome!

One Must Fall 2097 in my opinion the only fighter ever worth mentioning for PC.

Full Throttle I'm not a big point and click adventure fan, but I loved this game.

Then the usual FPS's Dooms, Wolfentein, Star Wars Dark Forces, Catacombs.

Agreed. First time I played Zork 1, I was hooked...the parser was great in that game.

I wouldn't say they have 'more depth', but there's a good deal of complex and interesting games for DOS. I've been playing through Syndicate and I'm surprised how damn good the game feels to this day.
