Hi all! Digital Combat Simulator is the most realistic flight sim available - the Flight Model is as close to reality as you can get it on your PC (besides moving your PC into a real plane ;)). DCS creator Eagle Dynamics and people of the former IL2 team are creating a WWII flight sim using that engine. Please take a look at their new Kickstarter-Project: DCS WWII: Europe 1944 - Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/508681281/dcs-wwii-europe-1944 Official Forums: http://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=294 Some more info about DCS: * Video: DCS P-51D Mustang - Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=IodepBs0w7M * Video: Corsica EDGE Tech Demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJLMDfBrEDI&feature=player_detailpage - Screenshot: P-51D Mustang: http://i.imgur.com/FEfUAqm.jpg - Screenshot: Focke Wulf 190-D9: https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/000/732/204/9a998ecea20f2e909114f7ef85dc11c6_large.jpg - Screenshot: Focke Wulf 190-D9 - Cockpit: https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/000/732/180/5d934b09274a24f0aa3966dd93eebd68_large.jpg?1373376142 - Screenshot: B-17: http://i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p631/SiThSp4wN/dcs2013-08-0122-11-09-93_zps3da74ca3.jpg * Video: DCS World - An Overview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=WBGLb98zkFQ - Screenshot: DCS World 1: http://i.imgur.com/WAk13ys.jpg - Screenshot: DCS World 2: http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m210/oldsky_23/Screen_130808_031305_zps00ff38a6.jpg - Screenshot: DCS World 3: http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k584/stuka72/Screen_130902_224852.jpg - Screenshot: DCS World 4: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/warthog/HUD-2.jpg - Screenshot: DCS World 5: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/warthog/Cockpit.jpg - Screenshot: DCS World 6: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/flaming_cliffs/FC3-08.jpg I'm a big fan of Flight Sims, so I really hope they succeed! :)

So...would you say this is in direct competition with IL2 Battle of Stalingrad? I think so. Basically the same few planes. Im surprised they plan on releasing so many planes in one title. Usually its one plane only for like $40-60. :-/

IL2 BoS is going to be somewhere in between DCS WWII: Europe 1944 and War Thunder - it is going to be more realistic than WT but less realistic than DCS. Eagle Dynamics also creates flight sims for pilot training for the real-world military (http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1613969&postcount=12). So with DCS you get the highest possible level of fidelity and realism (best flight model and all switches in cockpit functional + clickable). That's why any other flight sim feels a bit unrealistic to me after flying DCS - and I have played a lot of them. :)

No way in hell I am paying an existing and successful corporation up front to fund a project they could afford to fund themselves. That is not what kickstarter was meant for.

War Thunder is an arcade game. DCS is the most realistic and detailed flight simulator around. It's like comparing super mario cart to iracing.

1. Update: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/508681281/dcs-wwii-europe-1944/posts Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=FEv32IeTlaE This is a 3rd party project for DCS and you do not get rich by making flight sims, the market is too small. I've also played WT, it is an action game and completely different, almost like two different genres.

vfibsux

the flight sim market is small and publishers today dont want to put out an investment with low return, so devs going directly to kickstarter is a good idea.

False. Each. The modules include campaigns. As for the aircrafts themsefls they are the most detailed to be found in a game with clickable cockpits.

If you want many aircrafts with less detail and realism, pick up flaming cliffs 3.

I was pretty stoked at this announcement, I really enjoy Eagle Dynamics games and have been playing DCS World stuff for a while - picked up some more aircraft in todays sale. A WW2 themed DCS game sounds super rad, and the whole three free planes is absurdly good; I'm absolutely stoked there will be this and 777 studios new IL2 game (ironically with IL2's creator helping ED), the more competition the better and the last time we had that was Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator vs the first IL2. Might drop down some money.

You skipped the part where each vehicle costs between $10-60.

Emraldo
They're highly authentic replications with their own campaigns, missions, content and so on. For the amount of insane effort that goes into accurately simulating these aircraft, the price is more than reasonable. Yeah it sucks having aircraft fragmented, but the DSC system of integrating all aircraft together is a massive boon.

Especially for a product that already exist...from the same company...and can be bought for like 5 bucks.

Seriously, you can get Il-2 and Pacific Fighters (along with LOMAC) for like 5 bucks.

DCS simulator is working with partners. The UH1-1H Huey and SU-25 was not created by the actual DCS if I recall.

If the quility bar is high enough, they let other people develope content.

If you've ever played a DCS sim, you'd know that a single plane has more work put into it than most entire games do, by quite a large margin in fact.

I would venture to say that most people do not know or understand that DCS is what is known as a study sim just like the old Jane's flight sims were.

Well, Geminon, if you didn't bring that up, you just took the opportunity to shill War Thunder at the expense of this would-be Kickstarter game.

I suppose you are too much of a fan of War Thunder to consider that someone would say that some other game, namely DCS WWII here, is more "realistic" than War Thunder. :P

I started with MS Flight Simulator 3.0 in 1988 and have been playing a lot of flight sims til today. From that and building and flying remote controlled planes and helicopters I think I have a rough idea what a realistic flight model is. DCS Features by far the most advanced flight model, followed by Rise of Flight and in 3rd place I'd put one special plane from IL2 CoD (the other planes from that game are not that accurate). You're welcome to try out the DCS P-51D Mustang http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com any time you wish to do so. You just need to buy this module and install DCS World (which is for free). This is by far the most realistic simulation of a prop plane ever, it is simply amazing what flying this plane feels like. (And by the way, all the modules are compatible, both in single and multiplayer, so you can set up a dogfight between a moden F-15C and a WWII plane - like in the movie "The Final Countdown". :)) I'm prette sure if you give it a try, you are going to understand why I am so enthusiastic regarding the upcoming DCS WWII Europe 1944. And even if you still prefer other games because of their different gameplay or because they are easier, you will have improved your flying a lot. I really recommend not arguing over things you haven't thoroughly tried yourself. And by the way, I gernerally recommend not arguing too much, life is more fun if you take it with a bit of humor. ;)

It is an arcade game. People out there call Top Gun on the Snes and Ace Combat simulators, reality is those and War Thunder, while great don't have a fraction of the authenticity, simulation and realism in a sim like these.

That's the reality of things, I implore you to download DCS and try it for yourself if you need actual convincing. Or watch some YouTube guides.

Hence why actual pilots cite these aircraft simulations as being the closest example to the real thing, let alone used for training.

Now no one is saying War Thunder is bad, it's just a completely different kind of game flight game.

It's understanable more people will prefer more accessible games though.

It's why World of Tanks is much more popular than, say, Steel Beasts are.

Simulators were always a more niche genre, even on the PC that has the largest sim player base. (the only sims on consoles that are popular are "arcade sims" like GT and Forza)

Video - Corsica EDGE Tech Demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJLMDfBrEDI&feature=player_detailpage A work in progress video of the EDGE engine - already 8 month old. It will be compatible with all available and future DCS modules, as with DCS WWII: Europe 1944. Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea is about 8.680 km². Some more info and to make pledge options clear (as they may be more difficult to understand than getting a pilot license ;) ): http://de.scribd.com/doc/168449062/DCS-WWII-Non-Official-Brochure-Download-for-HD-version

3 days to go for the Me 262 stretch goal. $10 for early access closed beta $40 for all flyable planes (SIX in total, if the Me 262 stretch goal is achieved) A nice discount, if you consider that full DCS planes / modules regularly cost about $40 - $50 each.
