hello brothers and sisters! thank you very much for helping me!

I want to connect my home theater to my computer and play on my TV( for now).

my motherboard: asus rampage IV Extreme

my GPU: XFX 7970 3GB Core Edition

my home cinema: http://www.lg.com/ca_en/home-theater-systems/lg-BH7520T

this is what I did: connect home theater with PC via Optical Cable, connect PC with TV via DVI to HDMI Cable

so far I can only get the left and right speakers to work, the rest doesn't make any sound.

I really want to have 5.1 sound for playing games, right now I have arma 3 running for testing, I'm not really good with computers when it comes to sounds, helping is much appreciated.

again thank you for your help!

Well, is it selected in the sound control panel? I don't know what sound card you're using, but maybe you just haven't selected the proper setting. The setting should be in the drivers control panel, not in the windows control panel. There are usually two different panels.

Just a guess, but instead of HDMI, try connecting your graphics card to your tv just by DVI (your tv likely has a "pc in" port). The video quality would not be any different. Since your HDMI currently is getting converted from DVI, it's not really HDMI and could be confusing your TV since HDMI is suppose to carry both video and audio signals. That might not be compatible when you are also providing sound separately with optical.

I see your card has a HDMI out on it, so did you also try HDMI to HDMI with your TV? Either that or the DVI to DVI. The DVI to HDMI conversion could be doing funky things.

Optical can only do uncompressed stereo or compressed surround. To get surround over optical you'd need a soundcard that supports Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect.

I recommend using HDMI.

This. Optical out will only carry surround channels if you have those features.

HDMI is the best option if you can go through your receiver first.

As others have said, just go HDMI straight from the PC to the TV, then use the TV's sound output port to go to your surround system.

Better to go hdmi to the receiver than hdmi to the tv....
