computer randomly locking up on desktop (complete freeze)

one of the systems in my house 

-amd 9500 phenom 2.2

-9800gx2-

-muskin 4gb ddr2

-gigabytes ma770

-1tb WD

-ocz 600 watt

this computer has a fresh copy of windows xp sp3 and randomly the whole computer locks up when just sitting on the desktop. temps throughout the whole pc are fine 36c cpu 25c on Mobo, 43Con GPU. no viruses and fully defragged. any ideas?  the computer is about 5 years old

Check to see if your HDD is dying.

Burn and boot this iso and let it run a hardware test on the system.

I cant even run tf2 or css @ 120hz. i hate my 9800gx2. only 512MB VRAM
