Hi, I'm planning to buy a 1 of those laptops next month :

Asus g53sw a1

  • 2nd generation Intel Core i7-2630QM processor with Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 Technology
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M graphics with 1.5GB GDDR5 VRAM
  • ASUS Power4Gear Hybrid
  • SuperSpeed USB 3.0
  • 750GB 7200rpm hard drive and 8GB of DDR3 system memory
  • Backlit gaming keyboard with ergonomic angled design
  • Stereo speakers and EAX Advanced HD Audio

Sager np8130

15.6" FHD 16:9 "Matte Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Anti-Glare Screen w/ 95% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080)
Standard Dead Pixel Policy

500GB (w/ 4GB SSD Memory) Seagate XT 7200RPM NCQ Hybrid (Serial-ATA II 300 - 32MB Cache)
Combo Dual Layer SuperMulti DVDRW/CDRW Drive w/ Software

Few questions :

1. obeviously sager is better but I hear a lot that asus makes good hardware, So which 1 you think is better overall ?

2. since this is a gaming laptop, how smooth it will run games ? mostly new rts and mmorpg game (age of conan for example) ?

3. is it possible for later upgrade the gtx 560m for hd 6970m ?

thank you.

There isn't really a way to upgrade GPUs on the Asus, they block all other GPU hardware ids thru the bios(even if you flash the GPU vbios with an Asus id, the bios itself will still block it), even if you can get the card and heatsink to fit properly in their crazy designs schemes. Games play really nice with the new SB 2630qm, RTS's will certainly run good with these SB mobile cpus. The 560m isnt really special, but it still is a rockin mobile GPU IMHO. I have a 460m, but I have it running at 560m speeds with no temp increases at all. All my games have been running smooth as butter. Though I mainly play racing and FPS games. For the most part, I would recommend the Asus, but with you wanting to possibly stick a better GPU, the Sager should be your choice. I suggest ordering it from GenTechPC, and not XoticPC, since Xotic lost my faith when they lied about the condition the laptop would come in. You will lose the backlit keyboard the G53 has and possibly a quieter running laptop. But overall, specs you posted for the sager is nice, and considering it's about the same price as a G53, I'd choose the cooler running GPU, and having a matte screen will come in handy if you plan to be in high-lit rooms.

Have you furmarked it yet? Just curious what's the max temps you're hitting, if you can, include stock and OCed temps after around 10min(and the room temp if you can too). :>

@-GunGrave-

You should not run into high temps, especially with a 560m, the 2630qm might get up to 80c when being maxed, but that is still considered a pretty good max temp. But pretty much, while the laptop will use about 130-150 watts. The heat shouldn't ever be a problem with the Sager/Asus G53. And jiggly is correct, no OCing these cpus, but I guess considering the 2630qm beats even the highest mobile i7 of last gen(940m), at least I know the cpu has enough horsepower for now.

Get the Sager. Better GPU, better monitor. And Sager/Clevo laptops are solid and sturdy.
